Taj Mahal on Met Road and Nirvana are obvious and my favorites.
Any hidden gems or other places i should try? I got the craving for delicious naan, spicy food, tandoori meats, and wicked digestion problems tomorrow.

Saffron on the Westbank. Only open on Friday nights I believe.

Tandoori Chicken on Cleary. Just adding it to the discussion. It's a pretty small place dominated by regulars. I've never been there but I've heard they have a good buffet on Friday and Saturday.

You clearly haven't been to Nola Desi kitchen in Kenner. All northern Indian...especially the halal/Muslim influence.
We regularly go for the Halwat Poori on the weekends.

Add Silk Road on Royal St in the Marigny. Very good place.

Sounds interesting. Long drive, though.

I haven't been since he used to run a grocery market that also sold prepared foods as a kid. Every now and again he drops off some plates of food for my parents and I go snag some though.

I need to get back in there.

Thanks for the NOLA Desi Kitchen tip. I'm going ASAP.
NOLA needs more indian/pakistani food!

I think the "old" Pakistani place on Williams referenced above was Tarka.

Is this new? I don't remember it being there when I was there.

Is that in the strip mall near the subway and daiquiri shop? I need to check them out soon.
Thanks for the heads up.

I had Indian food maybe 15 years ago and hated it, long long before I had opened my mind to different cuisines.
I'd like to try again but have no idea what to order. Suggestions?

Especially for halal breakfast on the weekends. Mutabbaq and Halla puri. ..the rest is good too.

always start with the chicken masala. this is to indian food what pad thai is to thai. it's the staple. if you like that, then you can explore other things. the fried spinnach/onion is killer too. they fry it in a lentil batter I believe.
I am not a big fan of Taj Mahal on MR. The other places mentioned in this thread, how do they compare to this? I eat there because it's good enough, but nothing compares to what I had in Houston and even Baton Rouge. I've been looking for local Indian (NO, Metairie, Northshore) since moving back here in '10. Sadly Taj is all I know.
