I remember hearing of PVW and deciding to purchase a bottle on ebay because i love bourbon. the seller gushed about it over and over and even called and had a few conversations with me and was probably just as excited that I would get to try it (and subsequently love it).
Glad I was able to get my hands on it. I slow sipped it neat all the way to the bottom of the bottle celebrating great occasions and sometimes when the shite was hitting the fan.
Point is, I'm glad I heard the "hype" and it drove me to snatch a bottle away from the hard working fold that spend years getting "in" with their local liquor stores.

Weird thing to be glad about. Those people taking it upon themselves to work at building a relationship (i.e. spending money) with retailers really bothered you enough to be happy to "snatch a bottle away from them?"

And how much did you pay for said ebay bottle?
I can get online and buy 100 bottles right now if I wanted to pay triple retail. The hunt is part of the fun

Good point, missed the ebay part. He probably didn't snatch a bottle from a hunter. He probably bank rolled a hunter for three more bottles after paying a ridiculous price.
I expect he will say close to retail to save face, and he will have been the only person in history to buy a rare bottle at a decent price on ebay.

I was kidding. With all the back and forth going on in the thread, I didn't expect that to go right over heads. My point is, who gives a shite how you get it?
It's one thing for someone to talk about it without having had it, but otherwise, cheers, I say.
Got it for 350-400 on ebay. Can't remember the exact price.

I really hope the bourbon boom calms down quickly. I think we should start to hype a bottle of rum and see if people will buy it instead.

Perhaps we should start the new panic, what don't I like? Gin, then rum...

All this bourbon talk made me run and grab a bottle.
Any good? I got it because of its ties to PVW

Ron Zacapa 23. It's awesome, and at around $45-50 a bottle, we could watch the meteoric rise to triple digits and then impossible to find status.

Buffalo Trace is a good every day type bourbon. It is rye based and van winkle bourbons are wheat based. If you want to get a real good idea of the van winkle flavor profile you should look for a bottle of WL Weller 12. Under 30 and very close ties to new pappy

If anyone is interested, Cuban Liquor has the PVW 15 yr for $350 and the 20 yr for $600.
How much is the 5 yr Pappy at Cuban? Everyone knows the 5 yr is where it's at.

I have two bottles of bourbon in my cabinet, plain old Crown and a bottle of 1792.
2 1/2 pages and not one response to this? And you people call yourselves bourbon snobs...

I thought about clarifying the Crown thing, but then thought, "Forget it, this thread is rolling..."

correction, 10 yr, 20 yr, 23 yr, rye and one other (5 yr i think she said)
Crown comment aside, after a quick look at this pic, 12yr and 15yr are pictured and not mentioned. Still trying to track down that elusive 5yr Pappy. Lots of misinformation in this thread.
After trying all of the whiskey in that picture, the PVW 20yr is my runaway favorite. Screw blowing $700 on 23 year.

you do realize 95% of the people posting comments about 5yr Pappy are joking right?

Yeah, I realize that you were joking....
