I buy canned chicken as a cheap and quick healthy option. The only thing I ever do is dump in a salad or make chicken salad. Looking for some other options. TIA

Mayo and capers is about all I got. I keep it for emergencies but never doctor it up much. Just something to scarf.

It can be loaded with sodium, so depending on your diet, it's arguably not a healthy option. (Unless there are less salt versions; I've not seen any.)

Use it to make a quick pasta topping, the way actual Italians do...ie, not a huge swimming sauce, but more of a light, highly flavored topping for pasta. Garlic, a squirt of tomato paste, a few chopped herbs (oregano, or rosemary, or whatever you have on hand, fresh), a mashed anchovy filet or squirt of anchovy paste from a tube, a splash of wine, then add the chicken and heat through.

Or stir fry your fave veg & add the chicken just before it's done. Stir fry in a little oil some garlic, ginger, veg...then a splash of soy, a squirt of hoisin, keep stirring, & dump in the chicken and a drizzle of toasted sesame oil.

I will definitely try capers in my next chicken salad.

You're so well versed in multiple cuisines, I can't believe you even have to ask

Why don't you go start a "what brand shaker bottle do you use" thread on the OT, people might forget that you workout and eat healthy over there.

Why even take the time to reply to a thread you have no interest in??

Seriously dude?

Dump some tonys on it and just accept the fact that you're eating like a high school football player on steroids

The only thing I'd remotely think about using canned chicken for is to pop open, mix with some mayo for a quick sandwich in a pinch.

Other than that, a whole chicken has been my best friend. For about six bucks, I get wings, thighs and legs for my grill. I smoke the breast for awesome sandwiches, and I use the neck, giblets and carcass to make a killer stock to be used in other dishes. The smell of the stock in my house alone brings me joy. Not sure how much those cans cost, but a whole chicken is a lot of food for six bucks.

At first this was a thread about those whole canned chickens that everyone here agrees are garbage. It was a secret ingredient in Chopped and it was amusing to see how they used them. The only thing I could think using them for is to open the can, throw away the chicken, and use the rinsed can for Kick the Can. Do people still play kick the can? I used to love that game.

You can get a rotisserie at Sams for I think $4.88 and that are freaking huge and delicious.

No doubt. But sometimes you need quick and convenient. That is the point I guess.

It is cheap and convenient. Like I said the only thing I use is for is in a salad or for chicken salad. Thought someone else might have found another use for it.

I'm showing my age. Kick the Can was around when ground coffee used to come in big cans. Those were usually what we used. Ah, the good ol' days before internet.

Ground coffee still comes in big cans. And big plastic tubs, which you can turn sideways and use as a barracks for your plastic army men.
