It was great, but not as great as I was expecting. We went this past Monday night, wife, two young daughters, and me. I've had better food here in Baton Rouge, but the dining experience was best I've ever had.

I had the Beef Stanley
Wife split the lobster app and shrimp & grits with my youngest daughter
My oldest daughter had the ravioli off the kids menu

To me, the Beef Stanley was a little bland, the filet didn't have much flavor. The banana, veggies, and sauce were excellent.

The shrimp & grits were amazing. They are not the normal s&g, the shrimp is chopped up, placed in the grits, and served in a pasta.

The BBQ lobster was pretty damn good.

Of course we had Bananas Foster!!!

One thing I did notice about the restaurant, the servers treat the customers like they are royalty. They go above and beyond anything I have ever seen.

This is going to piss a few people off, but I was in shorts there for dinner. We were never planning on eating there. We were reading the menu out side and I noticed a few people come out in shorts (sign says jacket perferred during dinner). So I step in and ask the host if how I was dressed OK for dinner (khaki shorts, long sleeve button up, 1/4 rolled sleeves). She said it's Monday, it's no problem, as long as no cut offs and I had a collared shirt.

When we finally sat, I realized 90% of the restaurant had on shorts.

We did meet "One Republic" there that night. They were on the patio, my daughter's got signed menus ( before the band got their food)

I don't care what anyone says, Brennans is one of my favorite restaurants; I've never had a bad meal there. The Filet Stanley is one of my favorite dishes.

I'm interested in going just to see how they fixed the place up and maybe trying the brunch.
Brennans isn't on anyone's top ten list and I know it is extremely over priced, but I will make it there one day.

Went to the old place about 8 years ago and it was one of the most dissapointing "high end" meals I've ever had.

I shared your belief about the old place, but the new place isn't even close to the same restaurant in terms of food quality and dining experience.

And I personally did not find the prices outrageous. You can make a pretty fantastic 2 or 3 course meal out of the appetizer section and a bottle of wine from their awesome cellar.

The prices were not bad, about the same as Ruffino's or any other fine dining in BR.

Our entire meal was $140, but we only had 3 drinks and no apps (other than the lobster as a meal)

You had three drinks, one app, one entree, and one kids meal for $140 including tax and tip?

That feels a little bit high.

I do agree with others though that the new Brennan's has stepped their game up a notch. They make a good turtle soup and the Bananas Foster is out of this world. The place is very nice and the service is top notch. It's not exactly exciting or interesting to people from the area, but they do what they do well.

No, we had 2 entrees, app, kid's meal, 3 drinks, and a dessert. My entree was $40, lobster was $20, other entree was $25, kid's meal was $15, bananas foster was $10, three drinks were $30 (may have been 4 drinks).

Even though the kid's meal was $15, it was a real meal, not chicken nuggets or something, it was a real, homemade cheese ravioli and marinara sauce, very good.

I missed this the first time. The grits are over pasta?

Not over pasta, but kind of stuffed inside a ravioli, but not a true ravioli, it is open face, kind of like a large pasta shell, but it is homemade pasta, not dried. I guess I would describe it as a lasagna noodle, folded over, with the shrimp & grits inside, served with a cheese sauce.

Gotcha. Then yeah, that price is definitely fair

I actually just had Brennan's for the first time as well about 2 weeks ago. We went for brunch on a Monday morning. The service was top notch however I agree with you on the food. The turtle soup wasn't anything special. I enjoyed my watermelon wine concoction but just could not get past how bland the food was. The bananas foster was great though.
