I never biked but would walk most years. On the surface it seems like more major thoroughfare navigating to get to UNO. Then leaving that area at night might concern some people.

Riding the lakefront is a good idea, and also the path along bayou St. John. So maybe not as big of a problem when I think about it.

Agreed.

Will be nice to get back out by the Lake as well.

UNO Arena is approx. 4 miles from City Park, it has parking adjacent to the site for 7,000 cars give or take, if folks arent willing to "travel" that far, should be easier to get a beer!

great news
outside of the mud last year, the biggest issue was i forgot entirely where i parked and stumbled drunkenly (with my designated driver) for 2 hours trying to find it

best of luck and we will be there at UNO

Also, this will be much better for the teams and participants, and definitely for the Friday night party scene. This is from the email Hogs sent out to the teams yesterday:

quote:

From the survey, we knew your top team priorities were: drainage, better load-in and more parking. We get that all in this new site. The grounds are extremely firm (it is all grass on top of shells and even concrete in some areas), contiguously graded with more drains, there are paved roads throughout the site for load-in (as well having grounds that are much easier to drive on because of the firmness), and close to 7,000 lighted parking spots. Also…..just about no neighbors. Which means, Friday nights should be able to get back to those of yore with less time and noise restrictions. There is more water access and much better lighting as well. Also, we should have access to the Arena locker rooms so we will have shower access and other amenities. The Gala dinner this year will take place inside the UNO Lakefront Arena. This spot will improve efficiency and remove many of our constraints.

Haven't been out to the Arena other than for a nighttime concert. Will this all be in the surrounding parking lot(s)? Are there any trees in the vicinity?

Will this be held on the area between the levee and the arena or on the Southside of the arena?

Its the northeast quadrant of the site. So for reference sake it is bordered:

On the north by the levee, to the East by SUNO housing, to the west by parking lots for Lakefront Arena, and the south by the arena and the Maestri baseball stadium.

Post Katrina it was made into an RV park, so they built in roads, concrete cul de sacs, sub surface road drainage, etc...

We do lose some of the natural features of old site re trees, but sometimes those trees were more of a hindrance than a benefit to our teams.

Looks like a good site, any word on bands for the event?

I don't think the site location is going to be any hindrance. Hogs has such a huge draw now.
The parking situation will help immensely. As cooking team members we would sometimes have to walk half mile/mile to our vehicles to run errands or come and go once load in was finished. Hopefully parking for team members can be given some priority.
We hauled more than 50 pallets and 50 3/4" plywood to make a floor. Jesus that sucked but was necessary.
Good riddance to that shite!

Hey can we bring back the Lollapalooza 92/93 lineups?

I am not kidding when I tell you we hauled out approximately 20 dumpsters worth of just plywood from that site last year. Might have caused a momentary spike in the plywood futures market.

Way to spoil Deuce Pigalow's 2017 party band announcement.
