how did ginos or Louisiana lagniappe get mentioned in a “hidden gems” thread anyway? You can argue they aren’t gems but neither are in any way hidden

for real. i was hoping for more stuff like "get the fried shrimp at Serop's" and shite like that.

The wings at TJ Ribs on Seigen are the best there are. Smokey, large, 5 whole wings in a serving are almost too much.

The pizza at Roman's on Bluebonnet/Perkins is very good. Chicken schwarma version or gyro.

The ravioli with vodka sauce at La Contea is great. That whole place is great and I rarely hear anyone talk about it. Their pasta is as good as the usual Italian places, and a good bit cheaper (although to be fair they don't pile it on your plate so it probably is the same value).

This may not exist anymore, but the meatloaf with brown gravy at the gas station on Highland at the interstate used to be incredible.

Someone already mentioned Cafe Mimi, but they are great. Not only is their Vietnamese food good.. their breakfast biscuits are homemade and delicious. I like the bacon/egg/cheese one.

This one is a little more popular, but the Crispy Fish Curry at Chow Yum Phat is, in my opinion, the best entree on the menu. Their Hot Honey Wings are also outstanding, and the Miso Fresh Salad (a cold noodle salad) are great too. Most people just get their ramen and bao, but I find those 3 dishes better.

At Superior, there's a dish called Pollo Tapado. It is under the fajitas section I think. It is a massive amount of their mesquite chicken served with creamed spinach on top. You can get this dish in steak version also, but their chicken is brined and then marinated for 24 hours so it is top notch. Again, I know Superior is popular but this dish is slept on. Their baby back ribs are also great.

They don't post them online, but the dry erase board in Wahada has their off menu rolls and specials and they blow the regular menu out of the water. I recommend the Katie Salad and the Burning Man roll.

When I lived in BR Gino's was hit and miss. The two worst tuna steaks I have ever gotten was at Gino's and Ruffino's in Lafayette. There was so much ribbon in them I had to use a knife.

Well to be fair I don't believe either one is known for their grilled tuna. That would be the last thing I would order.

House Ribs at Omi. They are cut into little riblets and have several sauce styles to choose from. I prefer the sweet and salty house sauce. I get downvoted for saying this but I've been going to Omi for 9 years and sometimes their quality isnt up to snuff. Lately they have been more consistent and when these ribs are on point, they are phenomenal.

La Contea is pretty good and you are right there is not much mention of it. The service has always been top notch too.

I've never cared for Gino's or Ruffino's but the last time I was at Ruffino's (few months ago) I got a tuna dish and it was by far the best meal I've had at either of the two restaurants.

The meatball sub at Phil's Oyster bar is best in the city
Chicken Parm from Pinettas. Rotolos surprisingly has a great chicken parm that comes out in cast iron
The cheeseburger at Albashas is pretty damn good
The chicken tenders at Hannah Q might just be the best in the city. Ask for the rocket sauce to dip it in
