All the good international joints are outside of the loop

Someone who doesn't even live here talking about being in the loop. That's funny. The vast majority of the best ethnic food is out of he loop.

nice to have options.

not moving there this summer. trying to stay with my current company through the summer to save up enough to leave them and still manage for the last couple of semesters. My uncles at milagro exploration has one set up for me i'll try to take advantage of over the winter break.

I think Hay M is overrated. Manufactured corporate atmosphere.

I also understand Ham not wanting to leave the loop. It's hard for me to leave the area I stay in once I get to Houston. Too many things to cross off the list near by.

Underbelly is a very unique restaurant.
It was the one time I went: uniquely overrated. Meat was tough, server was a hipster who needed to shower and was way too chatty. Seems like there's potential there, but it didn't deliver, at least not that night.

My favorite newer restaurant is Reef. Fantastic food and some of the cheapest bottles of wine that you'll see at a restaurant of its caliber.

I've never eaten at underbelly, but the only thing I've ever ordered at Hay Merchant was the poutine and it was probably the saltiest thing I've ever tasted (and I'm including actual salt). Kinda makes me hesitant to get food there again.

And as for the OP, maybe a brunch at Down House in the Heights. Their fried chicken is amazing.

EL TIEMPO!!!! I second this choice, for it is my favorite Mexican joint anywhere. There are a couple throughout Houston, but I always go to the one on West Gray and Montrose. Make sure you get the mixed meat fajita. Shrimp are excellent, and they serve Beef Tenderloin with it as well.

Ken and Ziggy's!!!
sandwiches are tits! some of the best corned beef around.

They canceled it this summer. Just got back from a week long trip in Llano Tx. Trying to bang out a report on that. Hopefully the last thing I have to do is field camp text summer.
