Been over here for about 3 years and only been to Crawfish Time and Hook and Boil for crawfish. While they were good, I'm not crazy about the seasoning they sprinkle on top of the shells. Any place in Lafayette that boils similar to the likes of Perino's in Harvey or the old Charlies in Harahan? How are Dwight's crawfish?

I've searched old topics here on TD, and the consensus is Crawfish Time on Verot is the best place. Do they serve crawfish without the seasoning sprinkled on top?

You're in Acadiana now. That's the way its done there. Enjoy it. They wouldn't be doing it that way if it wasnt good

Most places around here will sprinkle seasoning on top. Boiling that type of volume, it makes it easier to have a consistent product without constantly changing out water and getting backed up on orders. I'm not saying it's the right way and I'm sure this thread will turn into the argument of who boils the best crawfish at their house.

Try Mud Bugs on Verot and 92 in youngsville. He uses a mix of seasoned water and extra seasoning on top. It's drive through only though. I've also heard good things about the place in Duson right on the interstate (I don't remember the name) but I've never been and don't know how they season them

I moved out here from Nola also. Don't waste your time. The sprinkles on crawfish is terrible. Pick up a sack from abbeville and boil your own.

Go to Richard's in Abbeville. If you are ok with picking up go to Buck's in Broussard. They are best around in my opinion and they don't put shite on the shells.

Crawfish Time on Verot is good.
Or drive out to DI's in Basile.

I am a fan of the sprinkle on top and crawfish time is one of my favorites. I second the mud bugs recommendation. Try Cajun Claws in abbeville. I do think dwights seasons only the water though. Call and ask.

From one NOLA guy to another, let me let you in on my secret spot, I swear to god if you blab this all over town I will fight you at Reds or something.

Moody Moose on Kaliste. They boil a small amount during the season, the prices aren't great, but they boil them like home, and they make them nice and spicy (spice really varies batch to batch, but it's usually good).

During crawfish season they usually open around 4:00 or 4:30 and do drive through orders.

This is just simply incorrect. The ones who do large volume don't boil their crawfish is seasoned water. Tony's doesn't, Leon's doesn't, etc. The reason the folks over that way put seasoning on top has nothing to with having a consistent product or changing out water. It's cause they like that shite. Why, I have no idea.

I never did understand seasoning on the shell. Why not make a sauce to dip the tails in.

You don't have to lather the cow with Chocolate to flavor the milk.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Probably will pick up some at Moody Moose to bring home. I do miss the days of going to Perino's or Charlie's after work during Lent season and throwing back 5 lbs and a couple of beers.
