There is a chicken sandwich I like at Walkons (I know, I know), but it has two chicken breasts on it stacked on top of each other. I always have to remove one of them to eat it.

It's freaking NYC.
$8 is nothing for a sandwich, there. If he tries to expand out chain style (which the article implies), then he's going to have to lower the price as he moves into other markets.
And sure. It's "just a chicken sandwich." But Chang is a genius, and I would imagine that he elevates this chicken sandwich like he does just about everything he creates.
I would imagine the bun is, ostensibly, for eating the sandwich while on the go. So you can hold it, eat and walk at the same time.

Its people like you that have allowed this to happen. It is just a chicken sandwich. No matter how you season it, no matter how you dress it, its a chicken sandwich. And please, dont act like its sooooo convenient that it can be eaten on the go and try to justify the crappy bun selection, people have been sticking meat between two pieces of bread for a very long time. For $8, that bun better be a handmade yeast roll, which we know it isnt.

Andrew Jive from Brooklyn hasn't had Chick-fil-a in years, and is happy David Chang brought something he can enjoy.
"He got it right," he said. "The bun, the texture, everything."
Some people would buy their own farts if the line was long enough.

Then don't eat there, jerk.

I'd imagine that there is not a big difference between Chang's sandwich and Chick-Fil-A's, but I would bet that the little difference will go a long way.
Chick-Fil-A has mastered the chicken sandwich, but even though it's delicious, you still know you're eating a fast food meal whenever you eat there.
Chang's will be perfectly crispy, brined, chocked full of a flavor, and memorable. He also has the brilliant marketing plan of serving alcohol with a lunch special. Business people in a business district can grab a drink at lunch with no worries. He's going to make bank bringing in people that want a quick chicken sandwich for lunch and decide to order a $10 drink to go with it.

Bun looks like crap. Give me Wendy's version over that.
did they intentionally try and make it look cheap?
That bun looks like it's sat out for days.

$22 for a chicken sandwich and a cocktail! What a bargain! Why not!?

you seem really upset about this
are you angry that he is going to make bank off a simple concept that you didn't think of?

Im not angry at all. Im actually shocked at this entire concept that someone can open a chicken sandwich restaurant and sell only that, and not only is it newsworthy, it is being treated like some sort of food mecca revelation, as evidenced by this thread.

In what universe is a gigantic sandwich, fries and a drink for 12 dollars expensive?
Sure as hell isn't in NYC.

I can't see the regular joe paying $8 for this sandwich ($12 for the sandwich/fries combo).
In New York, that price point is like an oasis in an overpirced desert.

That's about par for the course here, though.
I'll get around to trying it eventually, but this doesn't get me too excited.

That's the point. This has been done before. Is Chik-Fil-A newsworthy when they open a new location?
