At the time when grey goose hit the market, absolute and sky among others were trying to be cheapest.
GG came in high price from France with a sophisticated image. They even shipped the stuff in nice looking wooden crates.
The whole thing with Sex in the City and the new martini craze really helped them too.

Yep...if you price it much higher, people will assume it must be much better.

It's also touted as being from France therefore it has an additional "luxury" quality added to it. And it was created for the American market and not like it was some family tradition of hundreds of years.

If so, it must be the "Triple Distilled" version, which for $14.95 or so aint half bad.

Svedka. Trying to tell y'all. $19/ handle and as good as any of the others, if not better.

Probably, but I could definitely pick Stoli's out of a lineup.

Most newer liquor companies in America are buying neutral grain spirits from large manufacturers of the stuff, distilling it oncr or twice and calling it a handmade spirit.

Back in early 2000s the rappers started yapping about Gray Goose, Patron, etc.

Main stream America bought in and the rest is history.

Sobieski FTW. I would never waste my money on Grey Goose which is worse than everything listed previously.

Speaking of "local vodkas", wasn't Taaka made in NOLA? I swear I remember seeing New Orleans as the address on the back of the bottle back in the day.

Maybe thinking of K&B Vodka? Can't post a pic from my phone.

ETA: Taaka is owned by Sazerac Company of New Orleans, Louisiana and distilled in Frankfort, Kentucky at Buffalo Trace Distillery.

I just saw an ad for a 1.75 liter of Tito's for $24.99.

GG is overrated.

Tito's is a middle-of-the-road vodka. Good for mixing.

Ketel One is great.

Hey I've done many blind taste tests on these vodkas. IMHO, Titos has the most taste of any vodka, not the smoothest.

Deep Eddy another premium vodka out od Austin Texas, 10 times distilled will beat or tiekettle one head on at half the price. Taste the same to me.

Absolute, most over rated, Svedka most under rated.

I live in NOLA and don't think I have ever seen that on a shelf.
