Thinking about buying one. What are the pros and cons? Willing to spend between $200-$400. Any suggestions? Thanks

You may want to visit SmokingMeatForums.com Lots of folks there use electric smokers. Lots of good information.

I have a masterbuilt electric smoker and like it. Only issue is that I have had two in the past that have shorted out and tripped my gfci breaker once the heating element turned on. Was able to return to academy with no problem.

Get one with a meat probe.

Masterbuilt is tough to beat for the price. You can get better ones but you will pay significantly more. It's really nice being able to set it and forget it. The only real con is that you have to worry about more parts breaking/not working.

Had the same problem, twice. Loved it when it was working but after 2 of them crapped out and one for my friend I upgraded to a smoking Tex, it is built like a tank

Masterbuilts have a history of having s short history. Mine was great, until the control panel stopped working after about a year and a half. Service department was no help.

Buy at your own risk, maybe you'll get lucky.
