cooking a chili tonight. we normally mix in bowtie pasta with the chili for serving (dont ask me where this came from). this time i'd like to try cooking the pasta in the chili, sort of like pastalaya i guess.

knowing that the noodles will soak up a good amount of water, i'm wondering if i should add beef stock to compensate. the other option is to cook the chili as normal, let the noodles soak up what they can, and be left with a less "soupy" finished product.

thoughts?

Ok here's what i did

1 hour simmer at this point

I cook the noodles separate and serve the chili over it. That's what I cooked last night, actually. Well, it was kinda chili

Is this a Northern thing?
I see this on the Food Network when they visit places up north (Ohio, etc)
I've never heard of noodles with chili
Is it good?

it's very good. however i think cooking the noodles in the chili will only elevate it. i will post pictures later tonight.

I think it's mainly an Ohio thing.

no offense but that sounds like a good way to ruin chili and to ruin pasta...

I like rice *gasp* with my chili, so I will give the bowtie a whirl. Sounds good

I've been around up there, I've only seen it common in Ohio and a bit in the surrounding area. Most other states up north just have regular bean chili without noodles.

I made a skillet chili mac and cooked the noodles in the pot. Added a cup or so of beef broth. But chili mac is different from what you're doing.

That reminds me of a gourmet/homemade Hamburger Helper. It looks good.
