I dont do vodka often, but I'd agree they all taste largely the same. A few of the premium vodkas are made and distributed by the same distiller. I usually keep Russian Standard around the house, it mixes well, is okay for the guy who wants it straight, and the price point is on target.

This is along the same lines of somebody who buys expensive whiskey and mixes it. I keep a bottle of jim beam around for that.

well, if they are all the same I'd still prefer to buy and support local companies, which means Tito's

There is a price point that you can get down to where you def. know you are drinking cheap shite.

Under about $12 a bottle and stuff starts to burn and is just nasty.

Like others have said. I'm a Titos man. Half the price or better than Grey Goose and def. just as good.

They used to make Taaka in New Orleans, but alas, they moved their operation to Kentucky.

Vodka's quality is pretty much purely about the number of times its been distilled. The really cheap crap is probably only distilled once, maybe twice.

Once you've distilled something 3-4 times, it's pretty much hard (if not completely impossible) to detect any differences between products.

If I'm drinking liquor it's vodka

Ive tried all different brands of vodka, I now buy either Tito's or Svedka.

Both are distilled 5 times like the high priced brands.

Have been drinking Tito's since it hit the market. Best out there, regardless of price IMO. Mixed or over ice, does not matter.

I am a vodka drinker almost exclusively. Smirnoff tastes as good as anything out there. If I feel I'm being cheap, I'll upgrade to Tito's.

Eh I kinda think that if you're having a martini, a few more $ goes a long way. I'm a stoli guy myself. For mixing, no question that a cheaper vodka tastes the same but I love a dirty martini.

I would imagine there is no way you could discern between a Tito's and Grey Goose Martini

Whatever differences that may exist are so razor thin it's probably not worth the extra price. Particularly if you like your martinis dirty.

I agree with you again on food/drink REX. We may not agree on anything else but every post you've made on F&D has been spot on ! I save the Stoli Elite and the Chopin for good times, of course straight out of the freezer. I use Albertson's Frost in mixed drinks.
