I'm not sure why, but I never remember praying before any meals while dining out growing up

seems odd that my family would not have prayed then as religious as they are

never really thought about it till now

I've thought about it a lot for myself.

In some ways I want to, and in others I don't want to make it seem like I am all pious and stuff.

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

Matthew 6:5

I'm definitely NOT saying I think this about people. Just saying I've thought about it for me.

In this day and age, unless you pray loud enough to disturb those around you I really don't see this happening.

When we would have department lunches at work, as soon as we got seated one of the girls would lower her head and pray until the meal was delivered. Only looking up briefly to glance at the menu and order her food.

OR SO I THOUGHT !!! She was actually texting or whatever on her phone. For some time, we just thought she was very religious. She wouldn't speak to us and we didn't want to disturb her prayer so we wouldn't talk to her.

These days unless you are annoying people with loud praying they won't know if you are praying, checking scores, or posting a picture of the menu on the Tigerdroppings food board. And that is ONLY if they even look up from their cell phone and notice someone is sitting at the table next to them.

I can make it short and sweet if needed. The old "rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub." has been used occasionally.

And mostly the scotch is neat or at the very most one small ice cube or teaspoon of water just to bust it up.

In the name if the father, son and Holy Ghost

Whoever gets the most, eats the most.

Amen

I pray at night not during my meals.

I'm a bit more of a mouth breather. 2 or 3 cubes in the first pour....shake it around...count to 10 or 15, then I'm good.

I do not, but I have nothing but respect for people that do. Doesn't offend me or have a bearing on my meal in any way, so you do you and enjoy your meal.

Nope, but if I'm with someone who wants to, they can go for it. I'll even wait until they are done to start eating.

No. The wife and I haven't eaten a meal at the same time in 20 years. We have radically different schedules.

However, our dog says grace:

We say grace at home but not in restaurants. I need to rethink that.

ETA: I will give thanks in silence when eating alone. But the thought of saying our usual grace when eating out with the kids has never crossed my mind. We did not do it growing up.

Not religious, so no. When the family does, I just sit there and wait to eat out of respect.
