And they dump A1, BBQ sauce, ketchup, etc on it?

I am talking about a top piece of meat, filet, aged ribeye, or something along those lines.

I made filet mignon ($25/lb) tonight at work and one of the guys drowned it in BBQ sauce. Plus, he mixed in bearnaise sauce in with the BBQ sauce.

I know it was his money for the $15 steak, but I could have bought him a $5 sirloin, it would have tasted the same.

I can maybe see A1 on a top piece of meat, but I don't like A1, too tangy.

I do put bearnaise on my filet, so I guess people see that as the same as steak sauce.

No. They can eat it the way they like if they're my guests.

If it was his money, he can certainly do as he likes.

Ive never had it happened. I havent cooked steak for a lot of people though.

Tbh, I liked A1 on things like hot dogs, pork chops, and chicken.

i understand it's his money, but what I don't understand is they won't listen to you when try to explain the different cuts of meats, and why things like this steak don't need it.

To me it's like people who salt their food even before tasting it.

I forgot to add, he complained about the size of the steak. For $15, he was expecting a side of beef.

It's still his steak whether he paid for it or not. It's just a big deal to me. His tastebuds like it his way. Mine like it my way.

I like bearnaise, brown butter or blue cheese butter on steak. Many think any of those are sins.

I like to take leftovers from grilling steaks and make cheesesteaks with them the next day. I always put A1 on that cheesesteak and it's delicious. I never do it on the original steak though, and I have no good reason why other than convention.

I invited a family member over to cook him steaks for his birthday. My treat.

Picked up some nice ribeyes from Leblancs. Not prime but the reserve ones they have behind the glass.

They came out great. after getting his he promptly asks for the ketchup. To my dismay.

I will never buy or cook him a steak again. I'll just grill him a hamburger or hotdog. I know that I should not care but it does piss me off when you go to so a certain amount of trouble to present a nice meal which amounts to no reason when they dump ketchup on the prize entree.

It's okay not to serve someone something you don't think they appreciate, but it doesn't upset me.

Not at all.

If that's what they want, then I don't have a problem with it.

I get more offended when they don't say thanks for cooking for them. Just a simple, "Man, I appreciate all you did."

I'm not their dad.

FWIW, I like A1.

It seems like a petty thing to get offended about. But I'm a big believer in saying "thank you." There doesn't seem to be a lot of that going around nowadays.

I'm not talking offended like I want to burn down Ferguson, MO, I'm just talking a little hurt that they don't trust you on flavoring your food when you cook it. Like I said earlier, it's like someone salting their food before even tasting it.

Wasn't a personal shot at you. I knew what you meant.

I don't put a lot of stock in it. I'm more of a "thank you" person.

They can put dirt on it if they want, it's not for me to figure out why they like it like that. But they better say thanks.

I have a friend who salts his food before tasting it. I'm talking tons of salt. Makes me thirsty to see it.

It's funny that you ask this, saying that they all paid you back for the meal you cooked, and one of the things you did was make a burnt kale lettuce wrap using filet covered in a nasty looking bernaise sauce.

I'd be offended if I paid a guy to cook me filet and he put it on a piece of kale covered in bernaise sauce.

Also, from the other thread, you served them tiny 1 inch filets unevenly cut.

It sounds like they had reason to complain.

No. See, sauce is a thing. It's a thing because it's good. It's not a thing because it's needed to hide unpleasant flavors. Steak did not get a sauce exemption. The no steak sauce people are just about as low as beer snobs. Just generally terrible people.

Meh, I can't say that anyone that I dine with or cook for on a regular basis would so that donuts a non issue.
My dad however likes his steaks burnt to where it is just about like flavorless tough leather and he does add Heinz 57. His as def gets the cheap cuts when I cook steak for him.

The flavor of a good steak is a thing too. A thing you do not taste when you drown it in sauce.
