My auto immune condition causes my body to attack healthy tissue so i get these things pretty chronically. I tend to lose a lot of weight when they come because im limited to soup and alfredo noodles. even with lidocaine Its tough to get more than a few bites of anything else down.

Looking for other suggestions for things that aren't as irritable. Share your wisdom food board :D

Go to Walmart and buy L-Lysine and take them 6-8 at a time, once or twice a day if you can swallow that many.

It is an essential amino acid, so it won't hurt you.

When you take it, the L-Lysine interferes with replication of the virus that causes the sores by substituting with the amino acid arginine during protein formation. Taking them now will lessen the severity of the outbreak. Taking them when you first feel the sores forming can stop the outbreak before the sores form.

Good luck. They are a real pain.

I have an auto immune condition, not a virus. I take corticosteroids and immuno suppressants, they're treatment, not a cure.

the purpose of the thread is to find foods that wont be as irritable, not to seek cures for an incurable condition. thanks anyway :)

Why? Because I ask a specific question and get 6 responses with anything but an answer to said question? Thanks for contributing!

Stay away from high acid foods which would irritate the sores and go see your doctor for his advice.

Try milk and soft cheese.

Jesus, this thread is a shitshow

That being said, there is this ice cream brand called Artic Zero. They make ice cream out of whey protein and so it's low carb, low sugar, high protein ice cream which would definitely help you maintain good weight and maybe also make the sores numb a little bit. Plus it tastes pretty good for what it is. I recommend the cookie dough kind.

I just put salt in the wound for about 2-3 minutes. It hurts like hell but it closes the sore. By the next day it's healed.

noiicceeee. how much protein we talkin? trying to get off the prednisone because its killing my adrenaline production so im hitting the cardio pretty hard to try & help produce some of my own. tons of cardio not good for trying to keep weight up but if i get more muscles built its a start i guess.

Yea i appreciate everyone trying to help with that aspect but im not lookin for remedies . When my stuff acts up its literally my body attacking itself for no reason, it prevents healing as well. pretty much the only thing i can do is come off all my meds for a few days and re "shock" my system. corticosteroid withdrawels are miserable enough without the added pain, so i pretty much just stay in my man cave and be miserable and try to get through it, and try not to kill anyone at work in the mean time

I guess I was just hoping someone would catch this and be like " yea man ive been dealing with canker sores for years i got a whole cook book full of shite that doesnt sting". hopeful wishing never hurt anyone right ? :)

so anyway sorry if i sound like a dick

Just looked on the back of mine and it's less protein than I thought. 3g per half cup. 2 cups in the whole thing, so 12g. Still, it's a relatively healthy treat that might help with the stinging. Also, another thought, Quest makes a really delicious peanut butter protein powder that makes an awesome shake. Cold PB shake with some cocoa powder, vanilla, ice, vanilla yogurt, banana and you'll be sitting pretty, nutritionally speaking, and might not be too bad on the sores.

I don't have much advice here but you weren't being an a-hole.

I get them eating foods like oranges. Citrus and sometimes acidic foods will do it to people. Spicy foods also
