Dinner with 2 year old in Baton Rouge

Since my 2 year old has become really hyper, we haven't even tried to eat anywhere nice. We stick to places like Overpass merchant, Pluckers or take out. However, my mother in law is coming in town in a couple of weeks to celebrate Christmas and we would like to take her somewhere a little nicer than that. I was thinking of J Alexanders because places with booths are easy. We can put him in between me and my wife and he cant escape. Loud places with lots of things going on usually distract him well. We also have a 2 month old, but he is pretty good. Any advice on where we could take them?

Our mother in law loves the boys and wants to be around them as much as she can. Since it is how we are celebrating our Christmas, I dont think she would be a big fan of leaving them at home either.

Well leave the kid at home with her and go out to dinner with your wife.

Beausoleil is extremely loud, but nice enough for what you're looking for. They have a few round tables with a booth bench too.
J Alexander's isn't bad, but it definitely isn't better than Overpass Merchant.

So hyper is code word for poor parenting and undisciplined?

Judging parents without context is something you don't do.
You must not have any children yet.
Don't tell me your 2 year old smiles 24 hrs and greets you with water at the door

This is why iPads were invented

So you're the lazy parent that lets his kids fry their brains with iPads 24/7?
Nothing bothers me more than a family out at dinner with their shite stain kids playing farmville on their fricking iPads the whole time. Just stay home.

I'm sure you hate when they come on your lawn too

Holy shite dude. So letting a kid play with an iPad = lazy parents and kids with fried brains.

24/7? Did you not attend school? after school activities?

A restaurant is the absolute perfect place to let them have screen time. B/c if we're (and most other young families) at a restaurant, they have already been in school 8 hours, finished practice, and finished homework. What else would you demand of a 6 & 8 year old on a given day?
They have finished their responsibilities for the day, and can do whatever they want. Just like you.

Why do you care what someone else's child is doing at another table when it's not disturbing you? I can imagine many things that would bother me more than a small child quietly sitting at a table using and ipad.
There are lots of educational programs which can be accessed via ipad which reinforce learning colors, shapes, numbers etc...

Sorry OP, you should leave the 2 year old at home.
There is just an age range where they won't stop moving. Won't be quiet. Won't stop throwing. Won't stop banging. It's impossible to NOT be distracting to other patrons.
With both my kids, I think we just gave up on sit down restaurants for the 2-3.5 year old range. I wouldn't allow them to act an arse, so dinner usually ended with us leaving before food was delivered or eaten. It just wasn't worth the hassle. Pick up the food from your favorite restaurant and let MIL play with him/her at home.

There's really no good answer here. Even at a louder restaurant people are going to want to strangle you and/or your kid if he's that misbehaved.
Honest question, why not hire a babysitter?

Well he was recommending that he give the iPad to a 2 year old. There is scientific research that proves that doing this to children so young does have lasting negative effects on children.

iPads haven't been around long enough for any study like that to be worth a shite.

Plenty of places that you can bring a 2 year old. As someone else stated, Beausoleil is usually pretty loud, and would work. Gouter as well. Doe's would be good. Byronz Bistro would work (OK, it's not "nice").
You must eat dinner early, because kids aren't allowed in Overpass Merchant after 5:00.
