I cringed when I watched the episodes of Guy taking his son on a culinary tour throughout Europe. They'd eat at a lot of nice places and you could see the patrons appropriately dressed and then there was guy and his son...basketball jerseys, shirts with flames, crazy cabbage patch kid peroxided hair, sunglasses on the back of his head.
Random, but did Guy ever sing with Smash Mouth?

What a bump
I only live like 10 minutes away from there and still haven’t made it. I’ll need to check it out.

I love Popeyes but you get no street cred trying to downplay how
Good Willie Mae’s is

Went to a hole in wall Mexican place in Dallas that was on there. Can't remember the name but I recall the posole being the stand out part of the meal.
Probably the same one I went to. Food was very good, but not super memorable.
It was Avila's.
As far as Guy Fieri, I have a friend who's son has had cancer since he was 5 years old (he's 21 now). He's been in remission 7 times and it's come back every time.
Guy was supposed to visit the kid in the hospital, but the kid got released early. So Guy could have blown it off, but instead, he went to their house to see him. This kid has met a lot of celebrities, thrown out first pitches, been the guest of honor at Reds and Bengals games, etc, and Guy is his favorite. Guy spent the better part of a day with the family, playing games in the back yard, cooking on the grill for them, etc. Most of these celebrity things are just photo ops of 10 minutes or so. Guy really made sure that the Patrick enjoyed the time they spent together.
Patrick's Dad said that Guy is the most spontaneously funny person he's ever been around and had their whole family in stitches (Mom, Dad, Patrick, and his two older brothers).
That's all I got on Guy.

Beacon Drive In, near Spartanburg NC, greasy spoon chili dogs/burgers an onion rings "a plenty"...won't go back
Uncle Lou's fried chicken in Memphis...knocked it out the park...if I'm in Memphis at lunchtime, I'm going
Tortuga's Lie, outer banks...solid

I love DDD, as a small business owner, I love the way he showcases small places, the cooks and owners. When I hear all the charity work Fieri does, how he does so much for sick children, then when I hear someone call him a douche, I figure out real douche is.
I have a distant cousins, two brothers who own a restaurant. They were on DDD years ago, a few months later one of the brothers died of a heart attack in the restaurant. They got a very nice card from Fieri and a sizable donation to the charity listed in his obit.
Yeah, what a douche.
I have been to many of DDD places, its a good guide when you're in a new place.

Stopped at a burger dive in ok city and was not disappointed. Big greasy burgers smothered in caramelized onions. It was exactly what I needed.

My wife and I travel a lot and always look for DDD places near our destination or on the route. We have been able to
eat at probably 35 or 40 of his show's places. Most have been very good. It makes our trips more fun for us since we are foodies and love to eat at hole in the wall places.

I had to go through all the states I’ve been and see if I’d been to one... Turns out I’ve been to 4.
Wallace Station in Versailles, KY... Would recommend. Really good sandwiches, deserts, cookies, etc. Beautiful scenery right in that area. Well worth the detour when the leaves are changing.
The Tattooed Moose in Charleston, SC. I remember it being pretty good.
Blue Plate Diner in Salt Lake City. Meh, it was just a normal breakfast.
The Shed in Ocean Springs. Pretty good BBQ and atmosphere, but it’s in the middle of fricking nowhere.
Eta: Damn, what a bump... I’ve been to 3 of these 4 since the thread was started.

Have any of the owners ever said why they think Guy is a douche? I would think the restaurants who appear on his show would get a huge boost in business so common sense tells me the owners would think he is the greatest guy ever.

I used to hate on him because of his shtick. Never heard anything other than what a good person he is. I’m a fan.

Nobody who works with him says this. The internet just took off with it because he’s an easy target to make fun of.
He looks like bowling alley nachos came to life. See?
Good defense of Guy

I get Uncle Lou's for my office Christmas lunch we do every year. Besides the chicken being great, they have a good burger and a good bologna sandwich
