You don't see the issue with having some of your party sit back to back?

I would have called a few places around to see whats available. If nothing, I would have taken everybody home and made a big pot of gumbo or etouffee or something.

No grill? Let's all go home and whip up a pot of gumbo.

I'm a big fan of a round table but certainly wouldn't want it if it cannot accommodate my party. I haven't been to Peche but I've had the same experience at Cochon. And as much as I like Luke if had similar problems there. I believe as good as they are Link and Besh among others, get a lot of TV airtime and tend to lose sight of what they started out to do. And that's just a generalization but it seems the bigger they get, the more corporate, the less they become relevant.

I'm a very big fan of Frank Brigtsen for the simple reason is he in the kitchen, at a station, every night. It makes a huge difference.

And when I do have dinner with that large a party I do expect it to be just a notch below but not terribly much. As said if they can't accommodate that size they should just say so and then it's no big deal.

I had a shitty experience at herbsaint and haven't been back as well. Reservations for 10 at 8. Didn't seat us til 10. The waiter was terrible. I found the food to be too salty. The duck confit was extremely salty. Some people have said that duck confit is supposed to be salty, I've had it at la truffe sauvage in LC and it wasn't salty. Overall dining experience sucked. No apology either. I didn't write them or wrote a bad review though, just never going back.

I do like peche though but I didn't experience what you did wink.

Our waiter at Herbsaitnt once showed no personality. It was kind of awkward.

Had this happen to my party of 20 at Tommy's a few weeks ago. That aspect sucked, but our waiter Rene kicked arse, so he kinda made up for it.

If there had been ANY attempt to try to make up for it, beyond some ice cream at the end of the meal, we might not have been so upset.

After reading the comments here and other places online, it's pretty clear that their biggest complaint is service and they are in no hurry to remedy it. Shame.

You should have requested mustache guy for your waiter. He's pretty good.

Pretty sure 80% of them could qualify as mustache guy.

In this instance, the poor waitress tried. She really did. She was thrown into a shitty situation. I think she messed up by not going over the menu but she was probably nervous because we were upset. She didn't get a say so in the table set up.

There's no excuse for major screw ups and generally shitty service. I will say this, though, and I'm sure I'll catch some flack for it. I have rarely gone to any restaurant with a large party (really, only a couple of times that I can recall offhand). I understand special occasions and all, but my max is probably six. I sort of expect problems at any restaurant once it gets beyond that. But, like I say, maybe that's just me.

I get you.

When I see long tables of 10+ people at restaurants, I always wonder how they can even visit with one another.

Granted, none of the things mentioned in OP should have happened. But I agree with you on the large party thing.

Im with you VOR. 6 is my upper limit for dining out and if I have to do it, I try to go during a weekday when they are less busy. Its a defensive dining rule.

I agree

Sucks regardless. If I have a big party I'll just go to a place known for accommodating them. Somewhere with a private room or that has tables catering to large groups

Update.

Here's the response that I received today. In no way was I wanting nor expecting a refund. I do appreciate the email and hope it bring about service changes to the restaurants. I will return.....for lunch.

Dear Winkface,
I am truly disheartened to hear of your negative experience at Peche. We have had an overwhelming response to the James Beard award and have had to re adjust how we are handling the swarm of reservations. I apologize for the inconvenience this caused your table.
I do appreciate you letting me know. I have personally discussed the issues with the managers and we are making changes to make sure this does not happen in the future.

I have instructed the managers to reverse the charges on the credit card used to pay the bill that night. I know that doesn't change your experience that night but I do not want you all having to pay. I hope that you will continue to dine at the restaurants and not let this night sour you on the whole.

Sincerely,

Donald Link
