I think a "beer garden" type place would do very well in that neighborhood. Think Ave Pub with a patio area similar to Cure.

Man that timeline is so fricked up in my head. It was one of the first, I remember going there very soon after they opened.

hmmm

I was thinking some of those little places (ie Sarita's) might have a courtyard type space.

Maybe not.

I know there is a bike shop down there that has a garage door in back. Wonder if those shops could be converted?

That nursery is sitting on a nice chunk of real estate. Wonder if they lease or own.

They just tore down the old vet clinic. Something like that could fit there. Would be expensive.

I just don't think we can support it. Dat Dog and Publiq house both have a good beer selection too.

Funny that BO should date the neighborhood's renaissance to a murder....as the Freret strip's commercial decline dates from Bill Long's murder in his bakery back in '85. His deli/bakery was a cornerstone when the area included everything from a bike shop to a nursery.

Here's a TP article providing some chronology on the strip's re-emergence. LINK

Publiq House does have a decent selection. I never sit outside when I go, need to check it out.

Still haven't been to Dat Dog.

I think the area has plenty of available space, if someone threw a few bucks in they could have a nice beer joint.

They have been there a fairly long time. I used to get my Christmas trees there prior to Katrina.

Me too. I heard that Celestine Dunbar was thinking of re-opening out in Gentilly, but I don't know whatever became of that.

I know Ms. Celestine a little. Had some business interactions. Very nice lady.

I remember the Gentilly thing. Think she was suppose to be a tenant in some large new building being developed. Don't think it ever took off. Was suppose to be on Franklin Ave. I believe.

isnt publiq house's courtyard tiny? It's off to the left when you walk in, right?
