I wanted to try that place, a friend who worked at Rue kept telling me about it.

Same Chef and they do well at Hogs and also raise a ton of cash. Great guys. Every time I go in there we have a nice chat.

Blue Oak has the best wings. I didn't think their ribs or brisket was top 3. I will try again though.

Brisket is good. Ribs aren't really my thing. So, I'm not sure. Wings are the best in the city. Maybe even America.

LA 23 is the best BBQ in the city if we're counting Belle Chasse. they have EASILY the best brisket in the area.

the meat is good. love the wings and sprouts.

ill agree with the person that mentioned the joint being quietly good in the scene. they have been consistently up there for a long time now. i cant think of a time i had a bad meal there.

I'm not a fan of the Joint's sides. I like their meat. I used to go more often before Bud Rip's was taken over by Yankees.

I have no inside info, just my observations after going to CCBBQ 5 or 6 times. Chef Rob apparently wants to operate an old-school bbq haven where when everything is sold the place closes, not matter if its 12:30 or 4:30. No issues with that, except.......

The investors/owners built a big restaurant with an ABO permit and a FULL BAR and a large private event room. I have a very little bit of experience with both the restaurant industry and commercial development in general, but its enough to confidently say the following.....there is no way they can recoup the initial investment and make money without: 1) being open for dinner at least 3 nights a week, 2) selling a lot of alcohol (which you need happy hour and dinner to do), and 3) hosting a lot of private event is your event space.

Even since they opened I was waiting for them to find the middle ground of great food and being a full-service, lunch/happy hour/dinner restaurant. Obviously there are other places in the city that pull this off (The Joint, Frey, Blue Oak, etc.) so it can work. But I guess it didn't happen here.

i think he sees way too much value in his food being hard to get as opposed to having to work his arse off to have food for people who can make it to the restaurant during more reasonable hours.

Chef Rob OUT at CCBBQ by BRgetthenet
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the plan the whole time.

They probably brought them in and look at the recipes and watched him for a few months and canned him like they had planned to the entire time.

Haha wut. Burgau is not Dr. Evil dude. He wanted to operate a successful business and for whatever reason felt he couldn't. He wasn't secretly planning to steal the chef's recipes and then give him the boot.

Rob is passionate, I'll give him that. He was putting out some next level stuff on Jackson Ave back in the day. I thought this may be a good space for him to do his thing as he just needed someone to run it so he could smoke brisket and call it a day.

Well IMO (and others) LA23 has the best BBQ in the area now. Have you been ? Go check out their hours.

They are selling BBQ out of a trailer in Belle Chase. Low overhead and cost of living is low. They probably are content turning a small profit and going home

CCBBQ seems like a big investment whose main goal was probably to make some $$$$ first and foremost. Having real deal fresh Q is great but people still turn out in droves to eat reheated brisket (Blue Oak, Frey). Im sure the investors want to sell food and drink all day

yeah i eat that shite regularly for lunch. i work across the street. i just said they were the best in the area like 4 posts ago. they are open for awhile with no line a lot of the time for lunch and they're open for dinner a few nights a week now. they seem to be doing just fine.

So it's cool for LA23 to run out but Rob needs to work harder to have more reasonable hours. Got it.

Im not hating, they do it right. But they have pretty modest digs

CCBBQ investors dropped serious coin. I guess investing in a guy like Rob was the biggest mistake
