I have tons of basil and zero cilantro. Don't feel like going to store to make some salsa today.

The flavor of basil doesn't seem like it would be too off putting in salsa, right?

No. Completely different tastes. Don't do it.

It's your salsa, of course you can, might be pretty good.

Sure. Then you can call it marinara instead of salsa.

Depending on the spiciness: marinara arrabiata.

If you have tons of basil make pesto. Freeze in ice cube trays and one big cube is good for a pound of pasta.

And make your salsa too.

That's like subbing chocolate for peanut butter. Will the results be bad? Not necessarily....but the flavor is so completely different you as to render the end result unrecognizable.

Can't you just try some of the salsa with a little basil on it and see if you like the flavor? If so, add it in. If you hate it, at least you didn't ruin all the salsa.

+1 for making pesto instead

I sent the wife to the store.

Retardedness averted.

Agree with others - not the same taste at all - just leave it out - salsa with still taste good. Use your basil and make some pesto - easy and great with pasta...add a little pesto to potato salad, add to mayo...and it freezes great!
