Shopping today to replenish my stores for the winter and bought a box of Black Box merlot on a whim.

Seemed like a good deal and I figured "what the hell, 14 bucks for the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine. Can't hurt"

So who here has tried it? Is it an effective medium for delivery without affecting the taste?

If u like the taste of cheap wine, enjoy. Keg wine is coming along nicely. Probably the best overall product for long term potential after open. Needs special draft lines and same gas system as Guinness basically. Some top notch brands but barely and difference in cost from bottles.

It's not that bad. It's just like every other cheap wine, only it comes in a small black box rather than a bottle. The Black Box Malbec is a pretty decent cheap wine.

Just had a glass. It's not terrible.

Does it last? I'll stick with my bottles but this seems fine for regular guests

But then a restaurant can offer a top wine by the glass and a group of people can all get something different rather than sharing a bottle.

If you like it, then it is fine, regardless of what anyone might say.

It will keep about three weeks once you begin drawing from the box, or so the labeling says.

Enjoy your wine.

We get it from time to time. It is an average everyday drinker.

Oh yes it can.

If you are serving it to guests I suggest buying a decanter. Then they aren't quite sure just how bad they are being poisoned.

I've only played slap the bag with it every now and then.
I was already intoxicated every time so I can't say whether it was the bag or the other alcoholic beverages that gave me the hangover

that thing seems to never run out. it's good to bring to the camp if you're a wine drinker.

If you decide you cant drink it all (after mulling some) make braised short ribs
or red gravy

The quality of these has improved dramatically in recent years. Much of it still sucks though. One that I've tried that isn't bad is the Big House Red label. This used to be owned by Bonny Doon but the brand was sold a few years ago. One thing they did was roll it out in box format. It's something like $15 and I bought one a few years ago to serve to my father in law when he comes over. He wants red wine, but doesn't really care what it is and usually only drinks a glass. Given that this is vacuum sealed and is a considerable amount of wine, I figured I'd give it a shot. I thought it was pretty good and a great value. That said, I dont' have a basement full of boxed wine. I guess my point is: don't assume that just because it's in a box it is terrible, some of it is good, and there are plenty of shitty wines in bottles.

I like Black Box. The empty, flattened box takes up less room in the garbage bag and is lighter than empty bottles. I'm green baby!

My garbage man looks at my empty bottles and wonders if I have a liquor license.

If I'm serving guests in a decanter I'll probably be using a different wine.
