Why waste your splurging on mediocre ice cream like blue bell when ben and jerry's and new orleans creole creamery exist???

For once, I am thankful I don't like ice cream.

I do have some of these in my freezer for some reason. Guess I should toss them so none of my friends eat them.

Yea, blue bell is mediocre.....and I say that as 5th generation Texan.

Compared to Ben & Jerry's, yes, but it's also like 1/3 the price and half the calories. Blue Bell has historically been the best ice cream for the money, which is why it had its niche in grocery stores by being a little better than the store brand and competing on price. Ultra-premium ice cream definitely tastes better, but it's like comparing a craft burger to a fast food burger. Not only are they not in the same price range, but they're barely even the same product.

I didnt read any of the articles, but I did talk to the BlueBell guy this morning. They are apparently shutting down all the plants too. Its a shame because BlueBell is one of the better companies we deal with. They were extremely proactive about dealing with this

How will this affect places like the Dairy Palace and Texas Burger who are pretty well known for serving Bluebell Ice Cream?

One reason is not wanting to put a dime toward B&J.

Simple. Because B&J doesn't have the same flavors as Blue Bell. Not to mention the Winn Dixie I hit up, only has the same limited B&J supply.

Blue Bell refused to put a born on, expiration, or sell by date on their ice cream, and they responded with something like we don't need to put a date on our product and let us know if you're unhappy with the quality when I emailed them a couple of years ago.

Probably a conscious & deceiving marketing move on Blue Bell's part. I'm a date checker, and ice cream doesn't last forever.

Blue Bell will have a very difficult time thriving again, obviously.

It's not a splurge. I don't eat much ice cream. A pint could last me a long time. Sometimes, I just want a few tablespoons. I like Blue Bell. I like some of the Ben and Jerry's, but it doesn't doesn't have the flavors I like. Don't get NO Creole Creamery where I am.

I think BB can come back after a thorough cleaning of their plants and letting the public know about it. Costly, but surely they're insured and can weather the storm.

Say what you'd like about their political affiliations and controversies, but you cannot deny that they make a damn good product.

That said, Jeni's is the best I've had. It's a shame they charge $10 for a pint.

Good God yes! Best ever, period.

If you have the opportunity to visit one of their locations in OH, it's an amazing experience.
