Just had my 8 year old Viking blender give out.
Are vitamix and blendtec the only options for good blenders with similar longevity?

Vitamin is great...but buy the more expensive one online

For some reason I thought this was a Blended Scotch Whisky thread.
We have a KitchenAid and I have replaced the cog/sprocket thing on the blender once. $5 repair and back running. Glass Carafe. I have never used it for anything other than smoothies and frozen drinks. No complaints.

The vitamix is a beast. Love it

what are you going to do with it? Vitamix/Blentec may be an overkill.
We have a Blendtec but we do a lot with it including making hot soup, peanut/almond butter.

Just depends on what you're going to use it for ... I got a 1500 watt Ninja kitchen system 4 years ago, and I use the sh!t out of it ... blends everything I ever need it to, AND I also got the food processor out the deal, dough attachment, and 2 blender cups if I'm not blending a whole pitcher of stuff.
But again, I don't know exactly what your demands are of your blender. I know there's still a power gap there when all is said and done.

That's all? A Ninja will do you just fine then. I use mine to obliterate fruits and veggies all the time. I had weight loss surgery in 2011, and my Wife got me the Ninja for Christmas 2012 because i was wearing out blenders.
I use it for everything though. Blending, food processing, mixing ... i even use the cup attachment to grind spices.
Just make sure you get the 1500 watt, they have a few models out there now, and some are cheaper and less powerful. Way cheaper than a Vitamix, and more than just a blender.

Blendtec. Youtube "will it blend". Blendtecs are beasts. And the blades are attached to the carafe and are blunt. You won't stab your fingers cleaning it. The blades pulverize EVERYTHING.
Only thing I have ever found that beat the Blendtec was cold or frozen dates.

There's an eBay seller who sells refurbished blendtec total blenders for $190. I got mine 8 months ago and it's worked great. I think it had a regular 7 year warranty, but stuff I'm looking up now says it might only be 3 years on the newer refurbished.
