This question gets asked a lot, but "search" doesn't help much. Since you're getting crickets --and since I like BHM -- here are some starting points:

And here are four BHM weekly magazines from which you might pick up something (or just look at the purty pictures...)

My parents go periodically for a short restaurant trip. They're headed there again this month. They love Hot 'n Hot and Frank Stit's original place. Can't recall the name. They like his other places also.

I used to live in Bham, now in Nola - Chez FonFon is a great Frank Stitts restaurant.. Reasonably priced and no reservation needed. Highlands is his famous one - amazing, but def need reservations. I agree w hot n hot. 26 is another good one. If looking for BBQ, dreamland and Jim n nicks.. GIANNMARCOS is great. Hope this helps. If interested in a chill Sunday brunch check out trattoria centrale in downtown - basically amazing - bunch of chefs from the big Bham restaurants got together and opened it - very affordable and delicious.

Saw's bbq in Homewood is the best in Birmingham. Tiny little hole in the wall, great for lunch one day.

Here's a New Orleans food blog entry regarding Birmingham eats that has some good info and a couple of places not mentioned on here:

The only thing I have to add is The J. Clyde. Craft beer bar with some really good food.

The J. Clyde is a must if you like craft beer. Unbelievable selection. Never eaten there though.

Bottega is my favorite restaurant in the city.

Saw's Barbeque is good in homewood. There is also a sushi place that is decent but very overpriced. Dram is a whiskey bar that has pretty good burgers. New York Pizza is decent.

J clydes downtown is pretty good for burgers. Highland's is a legit restaurant, very high end but the only place that would actually rival anything in New Orleans (that I have been to).
