What are the better places to eat there? Just moved nearby, and want to avoid the crappy ones.

Anybody know what the restaurant is on top of the hill right when you turn off of 280?

just taking a quick look at their dining options on their website, i can recommend chuy's, but only the one in austin. flemmings is pretty good for a chain steak house. their potatoes flemmings are good, and they have a ridiculous number of wines by the glass.

but i'd drive up to five points and go to hot and hot or one of stitt's places.

Your are in chain heaven there, try the Mudtown (Mud Town maybe) Cafe nearby. Great little joint, I've never asked, but I'd swear somebody connected with it spent a lot of time in N.O..

It looks like Chuy's is one of the restaurants on the top of the hill.

I'll probably try Flip Burger first. Though I'm a little critical of high end burger joints.

Anybody tried Sweet Bones Alabama?

What is this?

Do you live on 280? Give us a better idea of the area you live in.

I live in Cahaba Heights. About 2 mins on the other side of the Summit from 280. The Summit is right by the intersection of 280 and 459.

Sweet Bones Alabama is a higher end BBQ joint. Never heard of it til I moved here last week.

Brio Tuscan Grill at Brookwood. Actually anywhere on the loop around Brookwood.

PF chang is like all of the other PF Changs around the country

Go down 280 to Superior Grill - good chips and salsa.

Several good BBQ places in that area Full MOon?

Village Tavern is really good. The Tavern at the Summit (unrelated) is a pretty solid nice casual restaurant.

Random story about Tavern at the Summit....

I was in there eating with friends the week of the Champions Tour even when Charles Barkley came in and sat next to us. He grew up close to there and was in town for the weekend. He was quite social with us.

Agree with the earlier posters about the Brookwood Mall, Mt Brook, and Five Points S areas just up the road on 280 from the Summit having other good options. The Soho development in Homewood has a really good Japanese restaurant as well.

Thanks for all the tips gang.

I've already tried Miss Myra's. Very solid pork and bbq beans. The white sauce is waaay to sweet. It tastes like ranch dressing cut with vinegar. The red sauce is pretty money though.

I'll give Sweet Bones Alabama a try and post about it soon. It's right on the main drag in the Summit.

Sweet Bones has a great lunch special.

Best BBQ in town is Saw's in Edgewood. Moe's BBQ comes in a close second. Like Moe's sides better.

If you're new to the area, check out Rojo on Highland Avenue. Bottega is also on Highland and great food for the price, too.

Birmingham gets ripped for its chains, but there are plenty of good eats around. You just have to know where to find them. Let me know what type of place you're looking for and I'll be glad to help.

For the other poster, Sweet Bones is where On The Border used to be.
