My all time favorite meal in Baton Rouge was a New York strip at Mickey's Gold Nugget back around 1980. I was still a student at LSU, and I think the cost was about $15 per person with a decent bottle of wine. I couldn't believe you could get such a great meal for that price. Best date restaurant in history.

I second this entire post-could take a date there, even on my LSU student job pittance, and it was to this day possibly the best steaks I've had in Baton Rouge.

I thought of this very same question on New Year's Day, looking back at the previous year, contemplating the best dish I had in BR. I happened upon a bluefin tuna special at Ruffino's which was my favorite dish in BR in 2012.

The steak and eggs I had at Mason's was one of the most perfectly cooked steaks I've ever had from a place.
I need to try this burger at Flemmings

Zeeland St Market - Mama's Pot Roast sandwich

Had that two days ago. I am so torn on Zeeland. I live two streets behind it, so it's nice to be so close. And the food is certainly good. But it's overpriced for how much you get. Soul food is supposed to be really cheap and massive portions.

It costed $26 for the Pericles (pot roast sandwich), the red beans and rice plate, and two soft drinks. That's more expensive than the same thing at Sammy's or something, which is not even considered soul food.

Giamanco's oysters in special sauce

Tournedos at Brandt's. Something in that dish blew me away and it was never duplicated there,

Chalet Brandt is exactly the name I am thinking of, one of his sons ruined the name some years later(too much cocaine).

To Mama, I got her to take sugar out of her cornbread recipe. Her and I got to be friends and would have converstions at the Chimes location outside the kitchen so she could get a get of doobage in her lungs.
