explain how FDL is anything more than cheap, middle of the road pizza with bargain basement toppings

It might be...but it is delicious!

The grilled chicken with shrimp fried rice and 2 egg rolls at Little Saigon, with a Watermelon and Strawberry smoothie from the joint next door (at their original location, not the damn Baskin Robbins next door to the new spot) ... with a combination Banh Mi to go for later that night.

It's worth the $180 round trip flight from MSY to PHL on Southwest Airlines to fly to Philly and get a cheesesteak from there.

Just kidding...South of Philly is pretty legit

Sushi Yama is very high up there.

Jones is big on the Cowboy Ribeye at Ruth's.

The special I had at Chelsea's the other day was pretty amazing. Chicken Fried Chicken smothered in melted swiss over a tomato-basil veggie risotto.

Grits and grillades at IPO are pretty damn good.

I don't know what the best ever is..

I don't, either. But, when I want shrimp on my pizza, I don't want tiny shrimp that would embarrass Chili's if they put it on a free side salad. If I want ground sausage, I want it fresh, not the dry, frozen crap FDL offers. Basically, I'm not bitching about the type of ingredients; I'm bitching about the quality of those ingredients.

Now, I don't have any issue with people liking it for what it is. What I don't understand are people who claim it is anything above a pizza from Papa Johns or Little Ceasars. I mean for heaven's sake, not only have I seen FDL listed as the best pizza in Louisiana, but it's being listed as one of the best meals one can get in the entire city. That's insane

A lot of it is nostalgia. I could have said the same about Pastime's pizza. I love it, but I know it's not the best meal in town.

Well..I would be one of those that love FDL. I have been to Chicago and New York, my first job was at Godfather's and I love Pizza and FDL's is my all-time favorite. The around the world with no anchovies.

Grant it...maybe it could improve with fresher, higher quality ingredients...but I like it how it is. Maybe I am just a sucker for square pizza slices.

Maybe that's it. I moved to Baton Rouge about eight years ago. I had FDL for the first time a couple of years ago after hearing how it was the best pizza in town for half a decade.

Needless to say, I was woefully disappointed. I haven't been back since, and have spent the last couple of years trying to figure out how anyone could get excited about that cardboard

Nostalgia isn't as good as it used to be.

My favorite was the gateau of eggplant, oyster and crab at the old Cippriani's off College. incredible dish.

I went there maybe 3 times and it was pretty much nothing special every time. I can think of 3 better pizza places in Houma for frick sake.

Where the hell is yours? There is no question mark in your OP, so we should be expecting a proclamation.
