I know making it from scratch is much better, but its just the wife and myself. What is best mix that you can buy in store?

I like Oak Grove Smokehouse if using a mix.

If you use some good sausage and freshen it up with some trinity it will be fine

There is one at Fresh Pickins made in Pierre Part that comes in hot and mild and it is superb. The hot is NOT very hot FYI and while I do not like a red new orleans jambalaya, I do like a couple of shots of Hunts ketchup in this pot just before you put the lid on. Last batch we made was shrimp and andouille that turned out SUPER.

That's what the kids eat. My oldest makes it on her night to cook.

Combine the Oak Grove mix with a box of Zatarains yellow rice mix. Use Conecuh brand sausage along with your chicken. Also add onion.

Same here, I brown my sausage then an onion then cook to package directions. About once a month its an oak grove smokehouse jambalaya, naked fried chicken and green beans.

Friend of mine in TX always loads up on Oak Grove, as well, to make it for she and her husband when they have the craving. I've never had it, but she gussies it up and they enjoy it.

I sampled the Cook me Something Mister mix at Sam's one time. I couldn't eat it. Tasted like they used brown rice in it - awful.

I also resented the fact that on Facebook they said they had a jambalaya calculator - their "calculator" was the instruction to use 1 party pack of their mix for each gallon of jambalaya needed. Lame.

Oak Grove is and always has been the answer to OP's question.
