If you only had Friday night and Saturday to spend in NOLA, how would you do it? I've hit some of the better restaurants in town but really want a quick and dirty guide to hole-in-the-wall, lesser known places. Best poboy? Oyster specials? Drink specials?

Casamentos, while offering the best oysters in the city IMO, does not offer a special on them. If you good oyster specials in new Orleans there was an article a while back that listed them all.

These don't belong in the same sentence.

If you're looking good oysters, yes, go to Casamento's.

If you're looking for specials, go to Superior Seafood. 4-6:30 PM 50-cent oysters daily.

Blind Pelican on St Charles has great oyster specials and you are within easy walling distance of The Avenue Pub for what might be the best beer selection in the city. Cheap eats - Coops on Decatur in the lower quarter for jambalaya/gumbo; Parkway in Mid City for Po Boys. Ignore Paul Allen - he's trolling these type of queries.

Quarter for the most part, not super far, and beer/simple drinks (looking for good atmosphere overall).

My favorite spot to drink is Bacchanal, which is a short drive from the FQ. It could be done "cheap" depending on the bottle of wine you select.

If you're looking for beer, then I'd probably choose somewhere else, though.

Down by the Market. Aunt Tiki's! It is strictly for people watching, and for feeling better about yourself.

It is down toward the gay end of the Quarter, but like Lafitte's the crowd is 50-50 or 60-40. But UNLIKE Lafitte's whose crowd is touristy and has their shite together, aunt tiki's is horrendous.

Buy BOTTLED beer as I would not trust a tap in that place. There are couches all along the walls. I would not sit on them. Gil Grissom and a CSI blacklight could probably locate 800 DNA samples.

It is hilarious for one beer. The place literally had a meat locker door cover on the entrance. You know the cut thick plastic strips over the doorway. that was the selling point for me.

It did not disappoint. Somebody had destroyed the bathroom recently as their was broken plastic and wet blood on the mens room floor. This was noon on a Sunday!!!

If you are into people watching at a level just above Primates. It is awesome.

Tiki's

ETA for quote from article I found amusing.

quote:

To quote an anonymous local, Tiki’s is “not bad." It's just the place you go because the bartender you want to pork is closing up the Frenchmen St bar and you have to follow him/her there and get even drunker if you're ever going to have a chance at hitting that.
