Same suggestion I make every time BR BBQ comes up...Deep South BBQ on Plank Rd.

get the AYCE dry run ribs at Sonny's. Decent ribs, 2 TX toasts, and 2 sides for $13.99 -- can't beat it.
Firehouse brisket is meh at best and Sonny's BBQ is simply awful.....Back in the day when they first opened in Gainesville.....people here in Florida say it was legit......Now it's barely edible.....The Red Lobster of BBQ
Orlando isn't much better than BR for BBQ unfortunately.

Sorry but I'll have to respectfully disagree with you.

I don't know how this board feels about HI-HO BBQ, but it's been a family favorite of mine since I was a kid. My dad and I both grew up on those sandwiches. I get some every time I go home.

Hi Ho is what it is. Its a guilty pleasure place that has a lot of nostalgia for some people, but everyone can agree its not going to win any awards for their culinary prowess

The fact that this is mentioned is a testament to how lacking the BR BBQ Scene is. Sonny's is OK for what it is. When I lived in Georgia & Alabama there were seemingly legit BBQ resturants on every corner.

Have you tried Day's Smokehouse in Live Oak? Have heard good things about it.
ETA: Not sure if that would count as BBQ now that I'm thinking about it.

Went to Smokin Aces yesterday and it is legit. True bbq, as good as anywhere in the south

Barner you have hit the nail on the head.....Thunderbolt must have not ever had any real BBQ.....The BBQ scene in Orlando is equally meh......the sheeples do pack Sonny's though...of course Red Lobster and Olive Garden are always packed as well.....UGH!!
