I am of the opinion homemade banana pudding is best served warm with toasted meringue. Which is completely different than the ones momma made when I was coming up. The wife is of the cold with whipped cream camp and grew up with that and never strayed.

Which do you prefer and which did you grow up with?

Homemade and warm all the way. Fold a little brown sugar and pet milk into the meringue before spreading. And replace nilla wafers for shortbread cookies.

I won't eat the non custard, jello/whipped cream stuff. I refuse to contribute to the downfall of our rich, Southern culinary heritage. Eating that stuff is like slapping your grandma.

I enjoy it hot, use the recipe off the Nilla Wafer box. However I have tried the cold version and it is alright just not the same. It should be called something else to save our Southern Heritage.

Hot banana pudding is the old school way. Almost any body over 50 likes it this way. I'm 27 and my mom apparently makes some of the best hot banana pudding. I like it ok but I actually prefer cold banana pudding with cool whip. Hot banana pudding takes more work as cold really is just instant pudding with whip cream.

My mom will only make it with bananas that are turning a little brown. She says that makes all the difference

I grew up having it cooked, but I also enjoy a recipe that I do that's cold using cool whip and cream cheese.
