holeman and finch, Bones, King and Duke, St. Cecilia, Bitro Niko are all viable Buckhead options. Probably can walk to them depending on hotel
+1. I prefer Hal's over Bones. I would add Lusca was just nominated for a james beard award for best new restaurant. Aria is also great. The new "Buckhead Atlanta" shopping area also has a handful of new restaurants (shake shack, thirteen pies, southern gentleman, gypsy kitchen).
As R2R said, the general consensus is that Kimball House is the best restaurant in the entire city right now followed by Gunshow. Reservations will be very tough tho depending on the night. Both are 20+min from buckhead but with Uber it's whatever.
Personally, I wouldn't overthink this decision and would go to holeman and finch if you can get a reservation.

this was my list of places i was going to check out in dec 2013.
LINK
take it with a grain of salt. i wasnt trying to hit it out of the park with a $$$ restaurant but going by reviews of several places we could eat while there.
really wanted to check out 'canoe' but ran out of time.

I really like Canoe.
My best idea is to make a reservation for an outdoor table then get there about an hour early and have a drink at the bar that sits right on the river.
edit: not today when it is 35 degrees and overcast.

Stumbled across this boss, so I don't know I'd too late. The Intercontinental has a fantastic lineup.
Bourbon Bar, Ham Bar, then Southern Art.

I've been there twice in the past 6 months for a business lunch and dinner. Great place.
How far would that be coming from Buckhead? 15 to 20 minutes at least I would think? I'm always coming in from a different direction so I really don't know.

20 minutes sounds about right
Although I have a mental 30 minute minimum to go anywhere in Atlanta
