Baked, not fried, is the huge difference here.
Wonder how much they will cost? I would go try an apple one and see how it turns out.
My only concern with the baked pie shell is, will it be sturdy enough to not break apart while trying to eat it?

They sell baked pies like that all over the place, not the same as Hubigs.

Is Hubig's shut down for good? I always thought they would rebuild someday. It's very sad if they don't, because that's a New Orleans legend

There has been absolutely no public attempt at rebuilding and/or selling either the recipe or a royalty agreement.
Over the years, I've heard stories that they were very underinsured (if they were insured at all) and that the process was very labor intensive and not very profitable. I've also been told that it was not very profitable because there were a lot of shady things going on with the money.
I'm sure to rebuild a 21st century factory with all the codes and stuff required these days is not cheap. But I'm surprised that no one has done it or bought a license to do it.
It's been so long, if it hasn't come back yet, I don't see why it would in the future.

we should pull together some money, and buy a frying conveyer like they use to make potato chips. Then buy Haydel's pies and fry them, add a dollar to the price and sell them as FDB pies.

I'm not familiar with the process, you can bake a pastry and then fry it?

The boys from Hupig's Pie at Hogs for the Cause need to get in the game.

Haydel's is going to kill it with this.
I follow them on facebook and a few other popular sites have mentioned this and they are getting a ton of positive responses.

I was being stupid. No you cannot.
Hubigs pies were basically empanadas that were fruit (or pie filling) filled and then glazed.

Haydel's rocks, I would bet these are going to be very good.

They should have named them "Huge Big Pies".

I am embarrassingly excited to try this - I was one of the dimwits to place an order for one of the "first" cases of pies off the line in the month or so after the fire when it still seemed Hubig's would rebuild.
Still wear the shirt.
