Arse's Fatty Rewind™ (Mother's Day weekend)

I hope all of you got to spend some quality time with your mothers this weekend. Without them, this place would not be so full of losers.
I left work Friday to run some business errands. After the bank deposit, I grabbed a Beam and headed home. I got out of my suit and threw on some jeans to head to Nola Smokehouse for dinner. They recently opened on Fridays for dinner serving specials. This past week was hanger steak.
I had never been before, and I was glad to find out that they were BYOB. I grabbed some Fat Tire (it looked fancy) and headed to the Irish Channel. The place is small but cozy. The platter looked tempting since it had every item on it, and I wanted to try everything. Instead, we went with the steak and a two meat combo. The combo came with burnt ends, fatty brisket, baked beans and slaw. The steak came with sweet corn spoonbread and baked beans.
The meal was insane. GOAT BBQ in Nola. I can't wait to plop my arse back down in there. I would have been happy with the sides alone. That spoonbread was decadent and delicious. The slaw was fresh and had the right amount of dressing. The meats were out of this world. The dedication to the smoke was greatly appreciated by my palate.
After the hurt was put on us, we headed to Avenue Pub for dessert. I got a Four Roses. It hit the spot.
We then headed home to make sandwiches for my fishing trip in the morning. I poured a Beam and made my favorite boat lunch: olive loaf.
I headed to bed early to get up at 4:45.
On Saturday, I got my arse up and showered. I grabbed my sandwiches and chips and headed to Venice. We were on the water by 8. Unfortunately, the seas were rougher than predicted, and the water was dirty as diarrhea water. I'm sure the high river levels didn't help our inland fishing either. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my sandwiches and time on the water.
I ended up with two snapper, which will be turned into something delicious tomorrow. While cleaning them, I enjoyed the rest of a DiMartino muffalata. It was very good.
On the way home, we stopped at the Myrtle Grove Bar. I got a few Beams and met some vocal residents. They seemed huge, but friendly.
After showering, we went to Casa Borrega for dinner. I thought we'd get to hear some free music on the patio from some fat Mexican with a sweet mullet. Unfortunately, we were sat inside. They sent some guacamole our way and took our drink order. I went with a caipirinha. The guac was very good and had a nice heat. I'm a fan of fresh jalapenos. The drink was okay. I think they put too much soda in it.
For my dinner, I went with ceviche and two tamales. I forget what meats were in the tamales, but they were very good. The ceviche was mediocre and came with a shite ton of chips. I'm not sure why the chips were there.
When I got home, I threw on some Cops and passed out on the couch. My fight to stay hydrated was beginning to fail hard.
On Sunday, I went to mass. It was a nice time, and all the mothers were recognized. The choir even sang Boyz 2 Men's "Song for Mama."
From there, my buddy and I went to Lafitte's to listen to some classic old school music. Of course I had several Beams. Here's a traditional pour.

From there, I went to Amelie to grab a croissant. I had to get something in my stomach before Commander's at 2.
I got to the lady's house and called a cab. I wasn't sure how late we'd be out, so I didn't want to take any chances. I think my cab driver was feeling no pain though.
Upon arrival, we grabbed some drinks at the bar. I went with an old fashion.
For my meal, I went with a smoked seafood croquette and the Louisiana Sportsman's brunch. The croquette was my favorite thing from the meal. It came with a poached egg and crawfish hollandaise. The brunch came with duck debris, blueberries, sweet potato cakes, another poached egg and foie gras hollandaise. I should have gone with the steak and eggs. They looked awesome. But I wanted to try something outside of the ordinary.
The brunch was good, but it was very rich. I doubt I'd order it again. The lady went with a crawfish frittata. I enjoyed it a lot.
For dessert, we shared a lot. We got the parfait, strawberry shortcake, chocolate gelato, and souffle. They were all outstanding. The parfait and shortcake were my favorites. The biscuit and strawberry is so simple, but so amazing.
While others got their coffee, I wanted to keep the caloric pain train on track. I went with a bourbon punch.
After the meal, the lady and I walked to the Bulldog for another round. I went double Beam.
We then went home to lounge. She wanted some Felipe's around dinner time. My head was pounding so much from dehydration, I would have gone anywhere to eat. But there was no time to drink water. I only had a few more hours before the weekend would be up.
We got nachos and tacos to take home. I grabbed a leftover Corona from the fishing trip and went to town. After dinner, I was ready to die. Thankfully, the lady got some wet rags for my head. I decided I should pound a lot of water and go to sleep.
I awoke this morning feeling excellent and ready to take on the challenges this Monday. Luckily, I found a white chocolate raspberry bread pudding muffin I grabbed at Amelie yesterday. It made me feel like a champion.
Stay fat, my friends.

Easily. Some of the best BBQ I've had and they are clicking on all cylinders right now. Hopefully for us it doesn't turn into one of those stand in line before they sell out early joints.
Dat olive loaf
One of your better weekends

They're insane. I think they're going to open up a very small space in the Quarter just to sell the muffins.

I am torn.
Been looking for some good BBQ and thank you for the suggestion.
At the same time, mad at you for putting it out there. Probably going to be packed now and won't be able to get in / quality will fall off as they try to accomadate crowds.
Damn you and Thanks at the same time.

This thread has inspired me to go to NOLA Smokehouse for lunch today. I was gonna go on Friday after my haircut at Magazine St. Barber Shop but went home to let the dog out instead.

I'm keeping an eye on their Friday specials. I'm pissed I missed the prime rib a couple weeks back.
That corn spoon cake is legit.
His sandwiches always look good too. They sold out while we were there.

Those guys gotten over themselves yet? or are they still acting like tools and charging $30 bucks for a shitty haircut?

Good re-wind. That's what a pour should look like

I don't think Arse has the pull you think he does and its not like NOLA Smokehouse is new. Rob has been out there for a while. He thinks quite highly of himself and has had some interesting Twitter rants.
Regardless you want a BBQ place to be crowded and sell out. The only way to churn out consistently good BBQ is to have crowds such that once done, the meat does not have to be held for long.
