True, but if I'm not mistaken that's a first edition limited release. Papillon, Mannequin, Palermo, Abstract and Machete are all in the $35-$75 price range and are great. The Mercury Head is a higher tier though, I've yet to try it.

You're right, I was just mentioning the new one. Mercury head is around $120, but the rest are in that $35-70 range.

I've got a bottle of mercury head in the wine fridge. I can't wait to open it

Really enjoy his locations wines and Mercury Head.

Didn't he sell of just Prisoner to one of the mega producers?

I'm sure Mrs. TH03 has shared this, but his more recent vintages ('11 and later) need some considerable time. That wine is so big, so peppery...just needs some time to mellow and settle down.

Yep, it’s gonna be a few years before we drink it.

That is super impressive. Is she with a restaurant group or a distributor?

Enjoyable thread. I've probably tried 60-80 different bottles in the past two years.

If I had to choose:
Zinfandel
Chianti
Cabernet
Malbec
Carmenere
Syrah
Pinot
Merlot (yuck)
White (what's that?)

Some of my better selections:
Rombauer Zin $30
St. Supery Cabernet $35

Distributor.

What are some good snacks that go with this?

I'll have a rose. That's as light as I go.

ETA: Anyone like the Spanish Tempranillos?

That shite can stay in th desert for that price. Give me a Le Pin or a Romanee. I haven’t had anything from Cali I’d pay over $100 for.

Yes, I love Temps! Anything from Ribera or toro will be excellent. Also, if you’re in Texas, we’ve got a few good ones to choose from.

Oysters for one.

Goat cheese goes great with them too. Anything tangy.

Provence rosés are some of my favorite wines. Fleur de mer, miraval, whispering angel, anything crisp and citrusy is great.

Spanish Tempranillos

Another of my favorites. It’s a popular Texas wine in the high plains and hill country because the soil is similar to northern Spain. Llano and Landon are 2 very good local Texas ones.

It’s a limited release, only 8 bottles for now, which explains the cost. 8 different labels. Sounds more like a collectors item

If you're looking to venture into others I'd recommend looking into Brunello di Montalcino. A great Sangiovese wine.

Baton Rouge, but I've been eyeing St Fredericksburg for a getaway.
Is that the best spot for wine?

Yep, Fredericksburg is the spot. Even those who grow in other areas usually have a tasting room there.

ok gotcha. I’m admittedly prejudiced against the new world wines; they’re too easy to cheat, imo.
