His stuff is definitely the jammy, fruit forward stuff that is definitely new world.
They’re fantastic though and not very mass produced. We don’t have that much in the warehouse usually.

shite, you're in dallas. we might have to talk.
i used to be acquainted with a guy who works for gallo, but he and all the other winos i've come across almost exclusively drink the new world stuff. i always get a kick out of seeing their reaction when they try a french wine for the first time against a cali wine that is "dry." there are a few I like though(ridge and dominus), whose winemakers i know don't adulterate the product.
i used to to work on the production side, so i know what tricks they play by bumping up the brix with concentrate(post fermentation) to produce a bigger wine with "better" mouthfeel, reverse osmosis, etc. i think the grapes should speak for themselves.

Heading to Napa Valley on November 9th for five days. I'm hoping it doesn't all burn to the ground before then. Sad.

You rang?
I'm in Fort Worth. We do a bottle share at Classic Wine Storage once a month. Just a few guys from every walk of life popping corks. Always some crazy impressive bottles.
If you guys are ever out this way, let's head up there and pull some corks.

Yea, Gallo is almost exclusively new world stuff. They do have Columbia which is in Washington. It’s drier than most of what they have.
I also have vineyard brands which has a ton of import stuff from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, even South Africa. La Vieille Ferme and Marques de Caceres are 2 you’ll see everywhere, but most are total wine/specs or cost plus world market/central market/Whole Foods.

I enjoy Rombauer Chardonnay and their Zin. Good stuff. I hope the winery survives the fires.

Had a '12 Palazzo red blend that was awesome. Right bank Napa blend.

We opened a 2016 Old South Sweet Magnolia last night. Good stuff and local.

Last night:
2013 Jessup Table for Four. Bordeaux Blend. Delicious as always.
2012 Caldwell Tannat. One of my favorites from Caldwell. Like a smooth Cab Franc, with a little bit of spice to it(?).

Just popping in to recommend, if anyone hasnt read it yet, the book, Cork Dork. Follows a journalist who has zero previous wine experience as she falls into the wine world big time. Great, easy read that also delves into a lot of pf the physiology of wine tasting.
