Anything from those last two sections are $20-60

My preference for zinfandel would be anything michael David. from the $12 7 deadly to the $60 greed, they make fantastic zins. Earthquake is right in the middle at about $25 at total wine or specs.

Etude carneros will be a great pinot at $32ish at total wine or specs.

I'm a huge Michael David fan. Try Freakshow also. It's a great budget cabernet.

It's my wife's favorite winery so I got the hook up and flew out there for her birthday. They reserved the outside for us even though it wasn't open yet and let us drink free all day. Spent all day drinking and wandering through the vineyards. It was great.

Doesn't look available at HEB. I'll need to find a local place with it.

Looks like a smaller winery so it probably has no distribution and can only order through them directly.

I've been to wine tastings dozens of times in California (Napa, sonoma, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara) and I've come to realize my palate just isn't made for wine tasting. I can taste differences between the different varietals but when it comes to the details I don't notice the difference. At least not enough to justify a much more expensive bottle.

Drink what you enjoy and don't me anyone else tell you differently. My wife is a level 2 sommelier and is taking her level 3 exam this month (level 4 is master sommelier). We regularly drink everything from $8 to $100+ and enjoy each one in its own way.

If you do want to learn more about how to pick out aromas and flavors, all it takes is knowing what to look for. Wines of the same varietal will mostly have the same notes, but one might be more pronounced in wine a over wine b. Just see, swirl, smell, sip and try to compare what you smell and taste to things you've had before.

For a good, inexpensive, everyday pinot noir, try Handcraft. Rouse's carries it at $9.00.

Yeah you have to order from them directly. They sell at a couple local grocers here in SE Louisiana, but are sold out within a week of taking delivery. I just order from the website.

For 25-60 you can get several 3-5 growth Bordeaux. Why not try an old world and see what you think?

The difference between wines is in the nose a lot more than the mouth. You can reallly only taste four things: sweetness, acid, tannin, body.... the rest comes from the nose.

Back in college I had a had a customer bring me a first vintage bottle of Don Melchior for my bday. Until then I didn’t really get it either. I liked wines, but I’d never had anything that was separate from the others; until I open that 86 Don.

The smell of the fruit jumped out of the bottle and filled the whole room in a matter of minutes. I poured it in a glass, it didn’t take an expert palate to smell the blackberry, cassis, leather, etc. it was like they were jumping out of the glass at my nose from 5 ft. Away.

That bottle changed everything I thought a great wine should be.

Give Joel Gott’s Zin and Pinot Noir a shot. Good, affordable daily drinkers

Anything by Orin Swift, you can't go wrong if you're looking to spend in the $35-$70 range.
I also recommend Sexual Chocolate by SLO Down if you're looking for a blend in the $20 range.
