Not to me they don't. I had a gas grill and hated it. Way too much babysitting for my taste. When I put chicken on my charcoal grill with the lid on, I don't have to worry about flareups and can go inside the house for a long time before having to check on the chicken. I can also do long low and slow smokes with little to no tending at all. I've even went to movies and such while things were smoking over charcoal. The Weber Performer is about the best all around grill one can buy.

This is what people say that buy cheap gas grills. Anything not named Weber would fall into that category. I used to think gas was a pain in the arse until I got my first Weber a few years ago. You can control the temp all the way down to 100° if you'd like. I've put a few logs of hickory on the flavorizer bars and smoked chicken, ribs and a pork butt over low heat for hours and they've all come out perfect. You need to spend a little more money and know what you're doing but a gas grill can outperform charcoal in most areas except the charcoal taste. Gas can never compete with that.

Agreed, and anytime I am BBQing chicken, smoking or slow cooking it my homemade charcoal pit all the way.
But I bout a Weber Q grill last year and loove the thing for steaks, chops, veggies, burgers and even Pizza.

A good idea for a gas grill is to fill the bottom with these lava rocks. Once they heat up they radiate nicely. It's way easier for me to control the temp with them.

I've cooked on plenty of Weber gas grills since Weber is all I will buy. I even bought my dad a Weber gas grill last summer since he loves to grill on gas.

I still prefer charcoal and don't think it is inconvenient at all. With the Weber Performer it has a gas assist that lights your charcoal for you and has an ash containment system for easy cleanup. I can smoke racks of ribs, brisket, pork shoulder and also grill steak, burgers and chicken all with little to no tending. It really is the ultimate cooking machine.

You needed to get a better grill. This was my complaint for many years with the cheap Chargrill gas grills I was using. Uneven heat and flare ups that would cause my food to catch fire. Finally let my neighbor talk me into getting a Weber Genesis, and it was like night and day. I became a much better griller from that day forward, because I stopped burning my food and started cooking it. That was 15 years ago.

Now, I know that if my grill starts flaring up, it's because my "flavorizer" bars need to be cleaned up a bit.

I got a Chargriller Duo for Christmas. I haven't even hooked the gas side to propane yet.

Taste the meat, not the heat

gas grills cook just as good as charcoal.

people that say otherwise only try and act like some manly man. Ill out cook you on gas any single day

There's something about that smoked flavor you get with charcoal that you can't get with gas. Also, throw in some wood chips or pecan shells and it is really tough to beat, IMO.

I agree. But I only care about the smoke for slow cooked stuff

If I'm doing a steak or something I don't really care about smoke

This! I've had one for about 3 years already and love it.

There are plenty of gas grill accessories available now that help temperature control AND flavor. I use gas and i always throw a few strips of some type of hardwood to add a depth.

For me, it's gas only, unless I'm smoking. Then it's charcoal.

When we were out of power in N Ala for a week after the tornadoes, my gas grill was a life saver. Used it twice a day all week.
