“It’s rice in tomato sauce cooked with sausage, chicken, or shrimp,” Elie says. “It originated here, and if you’re going to have a party in New Orleans, there’s a fair chance you’ll serve jambalaya.”

Otis:
Do you know an old guy in Carthage named Frank Turner
He was a clock repairman I did business with for several years. Colorful guy.
Mr. Google says he is still alive and 97 years old.

Google lied. Frank died years ago. I lived two miles back toward town. His brother Dan was the true character of the bunch...that was his half finished house next door just up the hill. Our farm was just across the blacktop to the east.

Just make sure you use creole tomatoes in the jambalaya. Then it's cool

I couldn't imagine Frank still alive. He was what I consider a real craftsman. Excellent clock repairman. I have fifteen clocks, so we did a lot of business. I am a much less skilled clock repairman, but I learned a lot talking to him. To visit Frank was to spend two or three hours and to hear the witness at least once as he insisted we "reason together". He would present the witness, I would open my Bible and read to him and then the discussions really began. Many times he told me my KJV Baptist Bible was wrong and that I should consider obtaining a JW Bible.
He was a good friend.

He was unique, no doubt. His brother Dan lost an arm in our hay bailer. Note to self...cut the damn bailer off before you try to unclog it.

So y'all we just two hoots and a holler and a left on a blacktop away.

Pretty much. Swam in the hole just below his house with his nephews. Spot lighted deer across the black top from his house. Killed a few legal ones, too.

The Sazerac was declared the official state cocktail of Louisiana in 2008, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of Cognac brandy that was its original main ingredient. The drink is thought to be the world’s first mixed drink, though the term ‘cocktail’ appeared in New York years before the Sazerac came into existence. Regardless, it has become an integral part of the state drinking culture. “It has a liquorice overtone and a bit of gin fizz,” Elie says. “It’s made creamy with egg whites and perhaps two tablespoons of whipping cream.”
Um, what? Is this a misprint?
