Boy do I agree about MLK being a death trap. Quite possibly the worst example of traffic planning and development run amok this side of St Tammany parish. I actively avoid the area unless absolutely necessary.

Besides the crappy chains, it's nice to see Houma developing a little bit of an ethnic dining scene. Sara's, Emerald, Song Phi Nong, White Bowl...I can remember not so long ago when any one of those places would have folded in a few months.

I agree. When I moved down here I was hoping to have a few local places to check out. Disappointed to find mainly fried seafood.

Living off St Charles, I like the growth on this side of Houma. I wish Tunnel Blvd would spruce up a little bit.

La Carettas should be opening soon.

I anxious to try the sushi place by Jimmy Johns!

Same owners as Samuri Dragon.

Off the hook is more if a chicken strip place like canes..... its cheaper and better and they have "Off the Hook Sauce" which like Canes is basically a seafood dip that every coonass makes when they boil seafood.

Same here, though I haven't been to Samurai in years...and when I did go there, I rarely got sushi (hot & sour pork FTW). Is the sushi still good there? Heard it kind of fell off..

That being said, conveyor belt sushi intrigues me...never seen it anywhere in Louisiana, or the south for that matter.

Yea, it is actually pretty progressive for you guys down here. Louisiana is pretty late to adopt trends.

Yeah, the Emancipation Proclamation just came to light about 20 years ago.

Just resurrecting this thread since I found out Walk On's is pretty firm on a June opening. They bailed on the spot by Regions bank and are taking the spot next to the new strip mall with Party City.

Okay what's actually good in Houma? We always go to Cristianos if we have time. And it's not bad, but it's slow as hell. There's got to be good food that I don't know about. It's the only city I've ever been to where the hospital cafeteria is one of the better dining options around.

Its not going in the old DQ. Off the hook is actually gonna finally open there in December. I spoke with the owner over in Thibodaux recently and he is getting ready to put some touches on it and finally do it. Cant wait cause I live off of St Charles and we need more food in that little cluster badly. Only so much rotolos and carettas you can eat.

I still think a burger joint would do well on St Charles St or in Houma in general. I know they have Reef but it is nothing special. Something similar to Phil's Grill with tons of toppings and different meat options.

Agreed, we do need some more burger options. Although the Duke does do a pretty damn good burger.

Has Reef reopened?

We talking the old Pizza Hut in front of Cannatas to be clear?

I passed a couple weeks ago and they were still closed. The duke is hands down best burger in Houma. Grady V's probably had the best in Thib.
