I'd say the notion that WRs are safer plays over RBs got rocked to hell. You had a high number of guys that flopped whether it was due to injury or piss poor QB play. Crazy stat I read yesterday

In the last ten years, 65 WRs have seen 150 or more targets in a season. Four of the bottom ten yards/target seasons happened in 2016.

The four were Hopkins, A Rob, Fitz, and Edelman. QB play used to not worry me much as long as the guy was being force fed targets I felt good about his weekly floor in a PPR, but bortles and osweiler were just God awful this year and managed to tank the production of two elite talents at WR.

TE was also a complete shite show this year.

I learned that if I am taking a WR in the first round his QB has to be at least serviceable.

I learned not to play fantasy football anymore because it's complete garbage now a days. Used to be fun. Retiring from the shite now. Too much inconsistency from players and too many injuries.

Fantasy basketball and baseball are the way to go. Hell, even hockey.

Well that worked this season because people went absolutely WR crazy in the early rounds this year.

To not go WR/WR/WR

Don't draft elite players that aren't on above average offenses

This. I'm not sure I'm quitting, but it just isn't as predictable anymore and makes wild swings far more likely.

Plus Standard scoring still tends to be a complete sham. All Top 10 players, except for Johnson and Elliott, were QBs no?

However, RBs were big this year.
I've always been RB heavy. never wavered from that strategy. Finished 1st in two leagues this year with RB/RB (David Johnson with a pick #4 and a pick #7). Everyone else reaching for OBJ, Brown, Jones, etc.

I learned to always go with your gut and never let the dummies tell you who to go with.

If you're game plan going into the season is to flex Defenses, don't fall in love with a defense and try to ride them through.

Let the top QBs go early and stick with the 2nd tier QBs w/ stacked WR/TE

Don't reach for a TE, to inconsistent

Splurge on a stud. Stop caring so much about the regular season because it's a crapshoot and the same moron has beat me the last two semis with meh teams.

Zero-RB still worked in 2016. Seven of top-15 scorers (points/game) were drafted after Round 1-3. DJ-Bell-McCoy-Zeke all just went nuclear.

In fact, four of the top-15 scorers (Gordon, Riddick, Blount, Coleman) were all seventh round picks or later. Ajayi (RB16), too, came close.

WR heavy still worked if you picked the right ones

right it still worked in a few where I started out with an AB-Evans/Hilton type combo....but the notion of just how safe and not as big of an injury risk got rocked a bit.

Zero RB worked when everyone was hoarding RBs and you had your pick of litter at WR vs. letting draft slot dictate who you got.

The problem with what you learned THIS year, is that next year will find a way to flip it upside down. That has somewhat been the case the last decade.

The waiver wire is where championships are won and lost. That won't change.

I think what you learned (or were reminded of) is that while WR is probably safer, the upside of an early round RB is through the roof. DJ and Leveon(per game) brought back memories of Larry Johnson, Priest Holmes, Tomlinson, etc.

As always, balancing upside with risk mitigation is where fantasy sports are won and lost.

I won $1500 this year and a championship. I'd reconsider that statement

Didn't learn anything specifcially but reinforced the believe that going into a draft saying you're going rb-rb or WR-wr-WR or whatever isn't a winning strategy. Find the players who are undervalued when the pre draft rankings come out. Lots of groupthink going on with those and most won't stray very far from them when drafting. If you are a good evaluator of football players/teamsand understand some basic economic type concepts you will win consistently.

I would love to see tzimme play in TDFL. How does he stack up against the board's top league? Then again, would it still be the top league if he joined?
