re: Has FS1 Strategically Become the Anti-ESPN?

Sports journalism these days is all about controversy and off the field BS that bring in controversy that people can argue about back and forth in the comment sections.
Real sports journalism of highlights and recaps is all but dead. The beginning of the end was when NFL Primetime ceased to exist a decade ago.
* There's a reason John Clayton left Drew Brees off his top 20 list or whatever. It's all about manufactured controversy. Hell, that the reason everyone has to "rank" everything constantly. I gets people debating and clicking.

He's not so much specifically anti-espn as he is pro common sense. They have gone far left with their entire agenda (Bruce Jenner, Missouri protests, Women's March, etc.) and he's called them out for it as it alienates the majority of ESPN's fan base. Which is actually a good thing for FS1. He's also been writing about the sports rights bubble and ESPN losing subscribers for over a year.
I don't really like the guy but I don't disagree with a lot he says either. However, does it not stand to reason that the subscribers ESPN is losing, FS1 is losing too? Assuming, FS1 ever had them to begin with. Does he ever report on the growth factory that FS1 is?
I legit have no idea cause I refuse to give him clicks, but when I go to watch sports, I actually watch the sport, with the exception of when I am on the treadmill in the morning and it is on ESPN. FS1 offers nothing that appeals to me sports-wise.

His daily morning radio show is up 2000% compared to the previous guys in his time slot and it took him about a month to surpass Mike and Mike.
As for subscribers I would assume FS1 the tv channel (which he isn't involved with anymore) would also lose the sports pak cable subscribers that cut the cord. But, FS1 doesn't owe literally billions of dollars in sports rights to the NFL, CFP playoffs, the NBA etc nor does each cable subscriber pay $7 per month to FS1, like they do to ESPN.

Why? On this board it's cool/popular to say oh he's a troll I cant stand him but then the same people say "I don't disagree with most of what he says." He's an extremely intelligent former lawyer that graduated law school at Vanderbilt. He says what most sports fans think when rationally looking at issues dealing with sports/politics.

FS1 is essentially an ESPN clone. It's the same playbook of simplistic black-and-white screaming head shows and manufactured controversy with a lot of sucking up to celebrities and their brands. The fact they lean right instead of left in their politics in no way makes it a different playbook. It's still dumb people yelling at each other over completed invented controversies.
And the two best guys on the network, Onrait and O'Toole have been de-emphasized because how dare they be light-hearted goofballs who don't take sports seriously?
NBCSN is the only one trying to do something different, but they need to bring back the 'Lights, which was amazing.

this has less to do with ESPN's left leaning broadcasting, and more to do with People just cutting the cord and tired of paying over inflated cable bills

Pretty much this. But don't let the MSB know that

I've been listening to Cowherd for almost 15 years. Yes he is a pompous arse and I disagree with a lot of what he says, but I enjoy his show, his analogies to real life, and his discussions on gambling.
Same here. Cowherd will be the first to tell you his job is entertainment and should be treated as such. I think he's very good at that.

Well shannon sharpe is 100% left so is Chris Broussard but most of the guys don't spew political vomit like espn does so it's def better programming.

I guess I am in the minority, but I enjoyed Fox Sports Daybreak more than Outkick The Coverage. Travis is good when he sticks to talking sports, and not afraid to address touchy subjects. But I had to turn him off this morning when he kept rambling on about some senseless comparison about Verlander's and Upton's features and his child's reaction to a SI magazine...24 hours later after dragging the show down the day before with the same silliness. It's mildly funny for a few seconds the first time. 24 hours later it's not funny anymore. Move on and talk sports.

Interesting. I always found Onrait and O'Toole unwatchable. I instantly turn the channel when those kooks are on the air.

All these snowflakes jumping ship from the winning team because Stephen A said something that hurt their feelings one day
Too bad Nick Wright on FS1 won't say anything to help them feel any better about their poor life prospects

I guess FS1 has their own set of ratings problems. Thank goodness they are turning to MLB to save their ratings!

I'd just settle for a sports network.

I wish SVP would get out of there. But even he's not enough for me to tune in. I don't care for FS1 either. I tried to watch but the two goofballs they had on initially...I just couldn't take it. Then king troll Skip Bayless came over...nah, I'll pass.

Most sports media has inserted politics into their coverage to a certain extent in order to stand out and have an opinion on everything.
This is why both FS1 and ESPN suck.
