Very interesting map. That one does look a lot more accurate than others I have seen.

I am a bit surprised at Alabama being overwhelmingly Saints territory though. It has been a while since I lived there, but in my day (80's and 90's) the Falcons were def the most popular team in the eastern portion of the state. Maybe everyone jumped on the Saints bandwagon with Drew Brees and the Super Bowl win.

Also, if that map is accurate the Panthers and Falcons should really focus on winning more fans in South Carolina (and the Panthers need to "control" their own state).

I know a lot of people in autauga county (right next to Montgomery) are saints fans because of Roman Harper. This area is pretty split between saints and falcons. There's a few titans fans.

Is that Drew Brees' hometown?

I thought he was from Austin. That looks like San Marcos area.

Oakland is a joke. It's like this poor, shitty smallish city on the outskirts of San Francisco which is a monster international city. I have no idea where their fans come from.
If this map existed when Al Davis relocated the Raiders to Los Angeles Northern California would be black. The Raiders were selling out every game and were a perrenial playoff team. The 4pers only became mopre popular after hiring Bill Walsh.

There are over 8 million people in the Bay Area. If even 25% of them favor the Raiders that is still more people within a one hour drive than the Saints can claim.

I don't see why this would be so difficult to create if you have access to the right tools.

You need to collect unstructured data across social media platforms for an extended period of time and then identify the location of the individuals involved with those teams. Viola you have an accurate fandom map based on actual postings/interactions from real fans.
