Please explain the argument that Yonder not being a jam band. They totally accept and embrace the jam band label placed upon them by the fans and media.

Nah. I know most would agree on the first two. People on PT would probably say the WSP should be even lower.

I like most of the bands mentioned in this thread, some more than others. While I think GD is probably the top jam band of all time, I don't think any of them touch the sound of the Allman Brothers Band. Not only is their sound tight as frick, nobody can wail the blues like Gregg Allman. I know jambands are more about musicianship and singing is not a top priority, but ABB brings both. Plus for me, Duane's guitar work is on another level compared to anything else these bands have going for them.

Great post.

When talking of the grand scheme of rock n roll the ABB rank far higher than the grateful dead.

However we're just talking about what these bands did for the jam band scene in particular and the grateful dead is THE quintessential jam band. They spawned this whole mentality. They are the kings of jam bands

I can agree with this, but of all the bands mentioned the ABB does the most for me. Which is what I think Loubacca was trying to say as well.

*Allman Brothers Band had a ridiculous peak in 1971 with Duane Allman however his death and the subsequent lineup changes prevent them from being Elite tier.

I actually saw them with the original lineup. Yes, I'm old (I saw Hendrix live).

Anyway, I've never really thought of the ABB as a true jam band (thank God in heaven). In 1971 they were the best band I'd ever seen. They also had a resurgence in 1993 when I saw them in Santa Barbara, and they were fricking fantastic then.

String Cheese and Panic need to be Middle-upper as does phish and the Allman brothers need to be moved up to elite. Phish took over for the dead and Panic filled in for the Allman brothers and String Cheese was somewhere in the middle.
