Going to D.C. as a tag along the first of June. The wife has a conference and I will have all day free. We will have the evenings and nights free. I'm more history-military esque than her. Just wanting to know the must see things and best restaurants in the area Tia

Of course, museums around the Mall....but if you're into aircraft, the National Air & Space Museum has a branch at Dulles Airport. You can see the space shuttle Discovery, the Concorde, spy planes, etc (a bunch of cool stuff too big to fit inside the Air & Space museum on the Mall). Well worth the metro to bus transfer, or an early side trip if you're flying in & out of Dulles.

Love this place. My sister lives a block away, so I always make sure to go when I'm in DC. Dram and Grain might be worth texting, too!

My favorite restaurant in DC is 1789 in Georgetown.

Check out Founding Farmers restaurant
I really like the Einstein monument/statue...it's across the street from the Vietnam Memorial and never crowded b/c most people don't realize it's there.
Definitely do Arlington...you can take the metro there.

Fiola Mara in Georgetown is great. Right on the water, awesome food etc. Martin's tavern is more reasonably priced, but great atmosphere.
Library of Congress is sort of an underrated stop we usually bring family to see. As others have said, monuments at night, Newseum, Spy Museum are all cool places.

If your flight home is after lunch, leave 3/4 hours early and go to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum at Dulles, you can store your luggage there and take the bus shuttle for $2 that runs every 15 minutes, FYI, its better than the Air Space Museum on the Mall
