The point is you don't have to fast on Sundays during Lent. You can do that thing you are giving up during Lent.
Yeah, Jesus wasn't in the desert on Sundays. So you can eat chocolate then.

Do the tuna fish sammich Fridays count as a. Cheat day?

I remember from my childhood that during lent you did not eat meat on Fridays, not everyday.

Ding ding ding. Lent is about true sacrifice, but 99% of observers treat it more like a petty inconvenience.
Dear child, you are going to go a full 40 days without Coke? Bless you.
And don't even get me started on the no meat crap. Originally it was the entire period because it was believed the more protein you consumed, the more lustful you would be. So no meat (unless you demonstrated your piety with a cash donation to the church) for the duration. Not sure how it condensed to only on Fridays.
Just go ahead and truly fast, and think of the silver lining of the upcoming swim season.
It always amazes me how so many people get so butt hurt over the practices of someone else's religion. Do your thing and let me do mine

lol at people who don't eat meat but eat fried shrimp or boiled crawfish.

Can't eat meat on Fridays gotta sacrifice so let's got to the seafood buffet instead of having a bologna sandwich. lol
Never understood that and I'm Catholic.

I think it just depends on how old school your belief system is, and why you're fasting in the first place. I know some older people who never eat meat on any Friday, regardless of the lent season, and some who abstain from food completely for different lengths of time when seeking a particular answer/guidance from God. I know a few men, one of which was my dad, that went on a 40 day full fast, but if you're going to do something that drastic you have to prepare your mind and body and be careful and intentional about it.

Blowjobs aren't considered meat during Lent.

Raised Catholic and I eat meat.
you are retarded if you think seafood isn't meat. this was a huge ploy because someone had a buddy who owned the fish market.
the act of fasting doesn't mean you should eat 30 lbs of crawfish.

the Vatican somehow considers the Capybara as seafood in South America and perfectly OK to eat as a non-meat during lent.

So does that mean we can eat Nutria Rat?
Looks like seafood to me.

Jesus don't care about Lent. He also doesn't hand out brownie points for being Catholic.
Instead I think he'd probably ask questions about why you're spending 40 days gorging on crawfish and sucking back Miller Lite and cigarettes.

The tradition was to make a small sacrifice in the form of fasting in order to remind oneself of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice. The reason that fish is allowed is because the poor often only had fish as a source of food; red meat was more of a luxury for the rich. Therefore, fish was allowed so that the poor could still eat; the point was to fast, not starve those who had less access resources.

1) It surprises me because of the volume who miss the point. In spite of the educational steps required in Catholicism, so many seem ignorant of doctrine. But you are right, live and let live. Except:
2) A good portion of whom I talking about don't do that themselves. Both in terms of how public they are in their announced "sacrifices" and the sidelong glances that are given to complete strangers when they overhear them ordering a burger rather than a PoBoy on Fridays.
Which in particular funny because they are following watered down doctrine.

Oh, please. Are protestants really so oppressed that they notice "sidelong glances" during Lent? It's the Inquisition all over again.

Who said anything about oppression? I was just pointing out hypocrisy.
"Don't judge me for how I follow my own religion's doctrine. Live and let live!"
--------------
*monologue* "Who's that ordering meat? Ugh"
BTW, Catholic who turned agnostic here. But thanks for giving me another example against "live and let live" with your mocking another religions beliefs and feelings.
