I like rye and bourbon equal and will switch it up. I like simple syrup and I like mine to look like this...

Rye will do provided it gets here quick.

I like both but I tend to favor rye. I really like making them with handy rye...has a little kick.

Either, and a sugar cube or teaspoon of sugar
And i'm with Wick, old fashioned should not be a sweet, pink liqourice drink that completely fills a rocks glass

I do both. Simple syrup for me

I've been using Bourbon. And honey instead of simple syrup. The hard part is getting it to dissolve.

Neither, a little bit of this syrup.

I need the perfect Old Fashioned recipe/method. Obviously it is personal preference, but I am going to try and perfect my technique of making it. I got the giant ice cube molds to replace my shitty ice cube tray ice cubes. Can anyone point me to a legit recipe? I have bitters, simple syrup, oranges, cherries, and bourbon.

My method.. probably not the most traditional but I like the way it comes out
Start out with some simple syrup... probably about a teaspoon but I just eyeball it.
Cut off a small slice of orange drop in the glass with the syrup.
Add 4-6 shakes of bitters.. I use Angostura
Muddle all that in the bottom of the glass.
Fill glass although 4 or 5 cubes of ice
Add 2 oz of bourbon, then usually pour an extra slash or 2 in the glass. I usually do buffalo trace for the bourbon.
Add 2 luxardo cherries and a little bit of the syrup from the cherries.
Stir it all up really good and enjoy.
The thing that stepped me recipie up was buying the luxardo cherries... they're expensive but really good
