Isuzu Trooper engine question

I am looking at replacing my 2001 Trooper engine with 1999 engine. My '01 is 2 wheel drive. The '99 is 4x4. Can this be done?

Drivetrain shouldn't matter. You need to look up the engine model first and see if it is the same. If not, are they the same size (number of cylinders, liters/cc's)?

It looks like the last engine change for the model was in 1998 to the 3.5L V6, so you should be good to go.
